UN Working Group on Business and Human Rights’ Post

UN Working Group on Business and Human Rights reposted this

We must recognize that businesses, especially transnational corporations, wield enormous power and influence. It is therefore naïve to expect all businesses, everywhere and every time, to take actions on their own. This is why the significance of this ongoing effort towards a legally binding instrument, that outlines responsibility of businesses to respect human rights and contribute to sustainable development, cannot be overemphasized. 📽️: United Nations Human Rights Full statement: https://lnkd.in/dcYf8QQM

Congrats Prof. Well articulated! Human rights due diligence (HRDD) is a management tool that allows enterprises to uphold their responsibility to respect human rights as outlined in the UN Guiding Principles on Business and human rights, the ILO Tripartite Declaration of Principles concerning Multinational Enterprises and Social Policy (MNE Declaration) and the OECD Guidelines for Multinational Enterprises on Responsible Business Conduct. Practitioners in this field should do the necessary advocacy to ensure awareness and compliance.

The coming into fruition of such a legal framework will mark a milestone in the development of human rights. It will take collective effort. Human rights is not a privilege to be hoped for, but a claim to be fought for.
