#Google As it's intern season at Google , I have seen many posts on my feed, with various colleagues sharing their amazing experiences and inviting people to apply. I'm actually a big fan of their work! I have watched many videos on YouTube about life at Google, although (unfortunately) the opportunities are not related to my field. So, since I don't have a photo at Google to share, I want to share my favorite book about it: "𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗚𝗼𝗼𝗴𝗹𝗲 𝗪𝗼𝗿𝗸𝘀" by Eric Schmidt and Jonathan Rosenberg. The authors highlight how technology has empowered consumers over companies, stressing that thriving in this dynamic environment demands not only superior products but also the recruitment of a new breed of multifaceted employees, called "smart creatives" by Eric and Jonathan. 🎓 From Intern to Pro: [That feels so pretentious xD] But here's an opportunity🎓   Exactly 4.5 years, I was in the thick of it, navigating the exhilarating chaos that is an internship[or God forbid multiples of them]. Business is a funny old game... Last week we had just finished interviewing the final two candidates for our Summer Intern position then we were right into being shown around potential new office space 🚀 I felt a little overwhelmed... For the first time, really, in my career, I felt what could be called "imposter syndrome" (yes I hate that term, too) 😬 Walking around new fancy office buildings after hiring an intern with that tiny doubt in your mind saying "You don't fit in here"... In the next few months, we're: ✅ - Hiring an intern with a view to a permanent role and becoming a team of 4 ✅ - Growing our client base ✅ - Adding a new "DocsDrop" service ✅ - Supporting new software ✅ - Getting an office Don't get me wrong, it's all exciting but I'm not afraid to admit this: It's also a tiny bit scary 😳 I know the truth is though as business owners we DESERVE everything we have - whatever that is and whatever success looks like to you. How Doctolib is Transforming Healthcare, One Appointment at a Time Let's keep it simple to understand Once upon a time in the world(before COVID I can say) of healthcare, patients were struggling to book appointments, and doctors were drowning in missed calls and cluttered schedules. Then came Doctolib, a startup that launched in 2013 with a simple goal: to make healthcare easier for everyone. Fast forward to 2024, and Doctolib has grown into a powerful platform. They send out 93 million reminders every month to help patients remember their appointments. Because,remembering dates is not everyone’s strong suit! This year, they invested €92 million to improve their services, making it even easier for patients to connect with doctors and access care. They even added video consultations and tools that help predict when patients might actually show up, maybe teleportation is next. As I observe Doctolib’s journey, I realize the importance of innovation in solving real problems. P.S.:I’m on the lookout for a summer internship. Companies, please provide your summer interns with housing. If you won't, then at least make the role remote. I say this because I just saw a data science summer internship requiring interns to be on-site in New York, New York. The posting also explicitly states that housing and relocation won't be provided. The hourly pay is up to $23/hr. How is someone supposed to be able to move to New York, New York, find their own short-term housing, and survive on that pay? The only people that can reasonably accept this role without facing financial troubles are: ✅ People that already live in the area ✅ People that have friends/family in the area that can provide cheap housing ✅ People that have a bunch of money lying around. This eliminates a lot of potential candidates. When I interned at Walmart in 2014, Walmart provided interns with free housing in nice hotels. Additionally, they provided dinner multiple times per week. Allstate also provided interns with free housing when I was there in 2015. That's doing it right! How do you feel about companies requiring interns to find their own short-term housing? Do you find it to be bad and unfair like me?
