Our comparative piece in which we analyzed Hong Kong's sustainable energy technology innovation policy and compared it to the policies of other 11 small high-income economies has just been published! 🎉 🤓 Thanks to Gloria, Kira and Weronika for all their amazing work! While it is hard to speak about the effectiveness of different policy strategies that countries have taken to support energy technology innovation, our results show that more innovative countries have made use of a more diversified portfolio using both supply and demand side policies and provided direction setting and coordination mechanisms to support energy technology innovation. And no, we are not just referring to the general R&D grants or technology adoption subsidies, but we can clearly see Nordic countries having energy-specific business internationalization or challenge-led programs in place. And yes, the use of challenge-led programs may seem obvious for the likes of the US and UK, but this has not been the norm in small countries (I should probably say non-Nordic countries at this point) with limited resources, despite the extensive academic literature on their importance. Obviously, there is a difference in wanting to lead in a sector building on domestic capabilities and passively adopting technologies developed and produced elsewhere, which is also fine if that is not an ambition of a country. Also: ❓ Why is there still a heavy focus on supply side policies when it comes to supporting energy technology that is, rightly, of strategic importance to so many governments? ❓ How can we strike a balance between channeling efforts into R&D, production, adoption and adaptation? ❓ What are some mechanisms that we could use to get over the (well-known yet still unresolved) 'valley of death'? Honours International Relations with Thesis| Future Ambassador | Aspiring Political Analyst Shaping Global Policy
COMP 2097 LinkedIn Assignment This article explores the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI )in international relations and diplomacy. It also highlights the current global instability because of conflict, wars, and the slow progress of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In addition, the article notes that, although the pandemic hindered the development of the economy, artificial intelligence provides a tool for improving the efficiency and effectiveness of the systems. The article also discusses the three types of artificial intelligence, namely clustering, prediction, and generative machines, especially ChatGPT, which is extremely popular with both the younger and older generations today. Additionally, the article emphasizes that one should be careful about the misuse of AI in light of its potential impact on political outcomes, such as the creation of doctored and deepfake videos. This article is relevant to me because it highlights the future of international relations which aligns closely with my academic field. It also addresses several issues that will shape global interactions in the future decade. Something I found interesting about this article is the use of AI in military applications and weaponry, which may raise security concerns if the wrong people obtain it and misuse it. https://lnkd.in/eNqfmcjE
