UNION TECHNICAL INSTALLS LIFESAVING COMMUNITY DEFIBRILLATORS! We’re proud to have funded a new lifesaving defibrillator in Appin. The equipment is located at Duror Primary School, where we also held CPR and defibrillator training to ensure local people can operate the unit if emergency medical assistance is ever needed. The chances of surviving cardiac arrest increase to 50-70% if a defibrillator is used within the first three to five minutes compared with less than 10% without a defibrillator. The donation is part of a community benefits programme we are delivering in partnership with Highland Council, where we have been transforming homes eligible for the local authority’s Energy Efficient Scotland: Area Based Scheme (EES:ABS). As part of the community benefits package, Union Technical has previously installed defibrillators at Knoydart Community Centre in Inverie and at The Pitstop Cafe in Kintail. It means a lot to us to give back to the communities where we operate. By employing local suppliers and making meaningful donations, we hope to have the same positive impact on people’s lives as our energy services have on their homes. #lifesaving #defibs #heartfailure #communitydonations

The Corsi-Rosenthal Foundation is a tax-exempt 501(c)3 nonprofit organization (EIN: 35-2779639). Our goal is to provide cleaner air in school and other public buildings with particular interest in underserved and/or vulnerable communities. We do this largely through financial grants, materials, or a combination of the two to build Corsi-Rosenthal boxes (CR Boxes). The Corsi-Rosenthal Foundation is run by consensus of a Board of Directors. All Board members are volunteers and receive no salary. As such, 100% of donations go directly to grantees for cleaning the air for their communities. No donations are used to purchase materials from companies affiliated with any Board members. Donations come in two forms: (1) individuals or corporations can make a financial donation, or (2) filter manufacturers and other companies can donate filters, fans or duct tape which are provided to grantees for assembling CR Boxes. While the Foundation is young and ramping up activities, we are proud to have allocated resources to build CR Boxes in schools/school districts and veterans centers in Mississippi, Kentucky, Arizona, Washington DC, and more. I wonder how many of you reading this can really answer the questions: 'What is Hospice Care?' and 'How do Hospice Isle of Man make the difference to those who need their services?' (And whilst we're on that subject... 'Who can use the services offered by Hospice Isle of Man?') This article is a great intro to the world of hospice care and the struggles faced by Hospice Isle of Man, along with many other charities across the Island, when looking at sustainability for the future. Educating yourself about the positive impact Hospice Isle of Man has on the Island's community (and perhaps challenging some of your initial thoughts!) is so important for your (and your loved one's) future. I can hand on heart say I had only scratched the surface with my understanding of its purpose but feel so much more comfortable should a loved one need their services in the future (and will be well equipped to advise on how to make the most of what is available!). Get yourself a brew and have a read... you've a lot more to gain than lose 💗
We’re excited to share an article from this week’s Examiner which is the first in a series of articles looking to dispel some common misconceptions about Hospice and showcase the positive impact we have on the lives of those facing life-limiting illnesses. This article follows an interview with our CEO John Knight and shines a light on the importance of Hospice for the Island’s community as well as touching on the many varied services offered to patients and their loved ones (more on this to follow in the coming months...). John also addresses some of the tougher issues we face around funding and sustainability, introducing the idea of progressive partnerships amongst charities on the Island to use donations more wisely and strategically. We hope you enjoy learning more about our valuable services and how we truly make the difference to so many through our expert specialist palliative and end of life care.
