I live in Ubon Ratchathani, located on the Thai, Cambodian, Lao border, 6 kilometres from the nearest neighbours and 27 kilometres from the city. This environment is amazing as it allows for real authentic immersion into Thai and Asian culture as a whole. We learn.... "Everyone eats from the same plate" ....Which is a fundamental learning curve for all Foreigners living in Thailand and certain parts of Asia. They don't speak Thai here. They speak Isaan; which is a mixture of Thai and Lao Languages. However, over the past 25 years, I have observed little change in the villages of North-East Thailand, aside from rising costs for fuel and food. At present, Ubon Ratchathani ranks as one of the most expensive Provinces to live in, second only to Phuket, and its cost of living now exceeds that of London for Fruit and Vegetables and not far off for fuel too. It is also the most easterly province in Thailand and formerly part of LAO PDR. Which brings me nicely to my next point......Thailand’s consumer confidence dropped to a 13 month low in August, with the index at 56.5 compared to 57.7 in July. This marks the sixth consecutive month of decline, driven by concerns over slow economic recovery, falling incomes, and flooding in Northern Regions. Contributing factors also include elevated interest rates, high household debt, and ongoing geopolitical tensions. That said. Its current political stability following the appointment of Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra, alongside rising foreign tourist numbers and export growth, offers an increasingly positive outlook. To address this issue more swiftly yet safely, Thailand could consider stimulating economic activity through targeted fiscal policies, investment in flood prevention infrastructure, and ensuring that high debt households have access to financial relief programs. These could strengthen Consumer Confidence while maintaining stability. #Leadership #CulturalAwareness #Business #Thailand #FiscalPolicy

As a nation, we should stand up strongly for a better future. Sri Lanka is a wonderful country, a land with amazing natural resources, fascinated tourist destination, a country of rich heritage with multi-cultural society. Economically, we struggled, but all of us need to re-think, that how we can raise Sri Lanka again. Development of SME sector, which is the backbone of Sri Lankan economy, creating export-oriented culture inside the country, maximize resource utilization with conservation for future, improvements for health and education are the key broader areas and I believe every individual have the responsibility and can do even a small part for those improvements. Small actions will create bigger revelations. Mother Sri Lanka is waiting for that kind of revolution and happy Independence Day for building a better future. #ceylonspicecorridor #srilanka

Sector Counselor of Food and Agriculture on the Danish Embassy in Dhaka - working towards creating a more sustainable global food production with collaboration of Denmark and Bangladesh
We would like to share more about the work Denmark is doing in Bangladesh - good and bad. So here is a not so subtle call to follow Embassy of Denmark in Bangladesh 👇 For me, it is important that the work that I do in Bangladesh both has great impact here in Bangladesh, but is also told and shown to the Danish (food and agriculture) community. After all, we are working for Denmark, and the aim is to bring the DK and BD- closer. Therefore, I am happy that our Embassy now also has a LinkedIn-page to share these stories 🙏 Apparently, LinkedIn (and X) has become an occupational hazard for me since my time in Landbrug & Fødevarer - I blame it on some soft nudging from the brilliant digital communication wizard Julia Fennefoss Vollertsen ⚡ So if you want to know more about Bangladesh' booming economy, how we do government to government work to promote food safety, sustainable dairy production - and also working towards making more sustainable supply chains in the RMG-sector please follow the page. And I promise to also keep you all on track here with the food and agriculture news as always 🐄 #workingfordk #followus #sustainablefoodproduction
