What we need now
Prolonged crises have a huge impact on children and their families, from an inability to access early childhood education, forced to leave their homes, to parents lacking the support they need. Our Parenting Under Pressure (PUP) program, supported by the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade #ANCP, is a peer-to-peer program that aims to empower parents and caregivers to provide nurturing care that supports their children’s development during humanitarian crises. You can learn more about the program and watch how it's positively impacting families living in IDP camps in Myanmar: https://lnkd.in/gnnBzsNp Susanne Legena

Protection (ICLA) Officer at Norwegian Refugee Council with expertise in Program and project Coordination
Late Post! So from the 24th to 25th April, I trained 25 humanitarian actors in Douala on housing land and property (HLP) and collaborative dispute resolution. Most humanitarian actors do not carryout HLP interventions while some a completely unfamiliar with the concept. HLP is at the center of most humanitarian crisis, hence the relevance for it to be mainstreamed in humanitarian responses. The training therefore had the objective to enhance the capacities of humanitarian actors to spot, monitor, refer and advocate for HLP rights and contribute to durable solutions for displaced and affected persons.

Clinical Psychologist, Trauma, Stress & Resilience Expert| Speaker, Trainer & Author of 'Stressilient: How To Beat Stress and Build Resilience'
I've been doing a lot of training, as per usual, and I am often asked about dissociation and whether you can still benefit from trauma-focused treatments. Yes, you can! But you need to know how to manage it. Here's a paper written by my team with masses of ideas, and will be helpful (I hope) for those working with refugee and non-refugee populations. #trauma #ptsd #dissociation

PLEASE READ IT ALL AND WATCH THE VIDEO TO KNOW HOW THE Ethical Dilemmas Aid Workers have to go through in everyday life! Imagine an aid worker in a region where cultural practices severely restrict women's freedoms. The worker meets a bright young girl who desires to go to school, but local customs prevent it. The worker faces a moral dilemma: should they respect the local customs, or advocate for the girl’s right to education, potentially causing friction within the community? Meanwhile, the girl’s mother worries about the consequences of defying cultural norms but dreams of a better future for her daughter. In protracted crises, such as in parts of a country, there is a tension between delivering immediate relief and implementing programs that build long-term resilience and self-sufficiency. Delivering aid often requires negotiating with armed groups. Aid workers feel the weight of potentially legitimizing or empowering these groups, knowing that refusing negotiations could mean no aid for desperate civilians. The overwhelming need and limited resources force aid workers to make heartbreaking decisions about who gets help today and who must wait. Security concerns and logistical challenges frequently impede access to those in need. Aid workers must continuously assess risks, sometimes leaving entire populations without aid due to safety concerns. Navigating cultural norms, particularly around gender, is essential. Distributing aid in a way that respects local customs while trying to promote equality can be a tightrope walk. Maintaining neutrality in areas with interethnic violence is particularly challenging. Aid workers must ensure their actions are not perceived as favoring one group over another, risking their safety and the success of their mission. Debates over dependency and empowerment are ongoing. Immediate relief is critical, but aid workers strive to implement programs that promote long-term resilience, often facing resistance from those who rely on continuous aid. In summary: Navigating ethical dilemmas in development and humanitarian contexts requires balancing adherence to humanitarian principles with the practical realities of working in conflict zones. Aid workers must constantly assess the impact of their decisions on both the immediate and long-term well-being of the populations they serve. Drawing on experiences from various conflict zones, it is evident that there are no one-size-fits-all solutions, and each situation demands a nuanced approach informed by ethical considerations, local context, and the overarching goal of alleviating human suffering. #ethics #ethicaldilemmas #ethics&Construction #ethicsmatter #rudragautam #followerseveryonehighlights #highlight #Cambodia #Sudan #aidailychallenge #HumanitarianSupport #humanitarians #HumanitarianCrisis #humanitarianwork #development #developmentaldelay #women #womenrightsarehumanrights
