Members of the G77+ China have been urged to continue promoting and reaffirming the need to respect national sovereignty and giving of policy space to developing countries as they implement internationally agreed development goals. The call has been made by Uganda’s Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Foreign Affairs Vincent Bagiire Waiswa at the opening session of the Senior Officials of G77 Plus China at Munyonyo Convention Center being chaired by Ambassador Pedro L. Pedroso Cuesta. The G77 Plus China Chair Ambassador Pedroso challenged member states to remain persistent in insisting that the international community lives to it's commitment while respecting the principle of common over differentiated responsibilities. Analysis from OECD - OCDE notes a disturbing failure to ensure attention to gender equality issues in 2022 bilateral allocable official development assistance (ODA) to #Ukraine: * 90% of bilateral allocable ODA to Ukraine did not include any gender equality objectives * out of the total USD 18.9B, only USD 44M or 0.2% (!!!) had gender equality as the principal (dedicated) objective (much lower than the overall overage across ODA as a whole) *only 29% of humanitarian aid included gender equality objectives This is after more than 2 decades of #WomenPeaceSecurity commitments, multiple policy commitments to 'gender in emergencies', and widespread commitments by states to support gender equality via ODA. No data are provided on support to women's organizations, but given the minuscule percentage of ODA that is coded 'principal', no doubt it is negligible. See the document: https://lnkd.in/eJqKJ5fr

Overall, the UN's work is guided by the principles of inclusivity, solidarity, and cooperation, reflecting the spirit of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam in its efforts to build a more peaceful, equitable, and sustainable world for all.

The Bahá’í International Community  Panel Discussion: The African Continental Free Trade Area Agreement (AfCFTA) and the Crucial Role of Women in the Development of Society The Bahá’í International Community invites you to join our panel discussion on The African Continental Free Trade Area Agreement (AfCFTA) and the Crucial Role of Women in the Development of Society.  The objective of this event is to explore the potential for women in Africa to benefit from the AfCFTA and to contribute to the socio-economic development of their communities. AfCFTA is a legally binding document, which entered into force on 30 May 2019. Forty-six African Union states have ratified it. One of AfCFTA's objectives is to “promote and attain sustainable and inclusive socio-economic development, gender equality and structural transformation of the State parties”. A very interesting exploration of gender issues in UN peacekeeping operations.

In times of multiple, overlapping crises it is pivotal to strengthen partnerships and demonstrate the power of international cooperation. With Expertise France, GIZ has a trusted partner at its side. As leading European implementation agencies, we share a joint responsibility for the reputation and the impact of European development cooperation. I am therefore delighted to have signed a Statement of Intent with Jeremie Pellet, CEO of Expertise France, in Paris, further strengthening our cooperation.     Among other things, we agreed to further develop the EU Practitioners' Network, the most important platform for European implementation agencies. We aim to promote the development of a unified approach regarding topics of mutual interest like the collaboration in fragile contexts or the effective promotion of gender equality.       In addition, we see an overlapping interest of the French and German governments as well as the European Commission in many regions and countries across the world. We share the concern to limit the coordination effort for the partner governments through a more aligned approach by #TeamEurope. To enhance the understanding of each other’s portfolio, we aim to provide a solid basis for continued cooperation on the ground and for a joint portfolio development.      Like the previous meetings in Eschborn and Marseille, this one was also characterised by constructive and impactful discussions. I am convinced that our partnership is key to position European technical cooperation for the future and to highlight our contribution to the pursuit of Europe’s international interests.

#DataMonday reality check: OECD - OCDE tracking of #genderequality financing confirms that Official Development Assistance (ODA) for women's rights organisations, movements, and government institutions has declined hundreds of millions of dollars on average per year. Read more: 1.      In 2021-2022, 43% of bilateral allocable ODA had gender equality as a policy objective (USD 64.1 billion), down from 45% in 2019-2020. The bulk was committed for programmes that integrate gender equality as one significant policy objective amongst others: USD 58.3 billion (39%). 2.      Only 4% of bilateral allocable ODA was dedicated to programmes with gender equality as the principal objective, a similar share from the previous period. 3.      Humanitarian aid and aid for the energy sector continue to have the lowest shares of aid with gender equality objectives (18% and 30% respectively). 4.      ODA to support women’s rights organisations and movements, and government institutions dropped to USD 631 million on average per year in 2021-2022, from USD 891 million in 2019-2020. 📢➡️ Excluding the volumes committed to government institutions such as women’s ministries, the amount was USD 453 million in 2021-2022. ⬅️ 5.      ODA to end violence against women and girls reached USD 563 million on average per year in 2021-2022, representing less than 1% of total bilateral allocable ODA.
