We all know that South Africa has a large number of hungry people, but do you know the reason for this phenomenon? The conclusions I have drawn may surprise you! I have attempted to explore the relationship between South Africa's hunger index and its various development indicators. Finally, I believe that the vicious cycle in South Africa's development is the culprit behind all of this! They are poverty, low education levels, high unemployment rates, and regional conflicts. My name is Zixiao Zhu, and I am a master's student majoring in actuarial science. I am passionate about research in SDE and dynamical system. Data visualization is a completely new field for me, and I have learned a lot in this course, especially how to convey information clearly and concisely. They include various charts, writing data stories, and excellent presentation skills. Regarding my artifact, I think I have done a good job in Effective use of data visualizations, conveying many complex concepts and relationships between data, which can be considered as Brilliant or even Mind Blowing! There is also a coherent logic in the Cohesion of the Presentation section, which can lead to Brilliance. The suitability of the presentation to target stakeholders is slightly inferior, perhaps not suitable for explaining to the South African President. I think it can only be evaluated as a Good Job. Overall, I have completed about 80% of the task requirements, so I will give myself a score of 8/10. #unswDataVisComm Poon Leung

Survival analysis is all about predicting the time for an event to occur, focusing on the time between exposure and the event itself. How about creating a model to predict the time it takes for a graduate to secure employment in South Africa? By considering graduation as the exposure and employment as the event, we can manage post-graduation expectations effectively. 📊 First Fieldwork at National Bureau of Statistics Nigeria : A Glimpse into Survey Methodologies Excited to share my experience during the first fieldwork at the National Bureau of Statistics Nigeria (NBS) in Federal Secretariat, Ikolaba Ibadan. Under the guidance of Mr. Agboola, Mrs Olaide, and Mr. Shola, our dedicated supervisors, we delved into various surveys essential for informed data collection. 🏡 Surveys Conducted: 1. NISH - National Integrated Survey of Households: Focuses on the General Household Survey (GHS), assessing individuals and families in the community. 2. NISE - National Integrated Survey of Establishment: Targets establishments to gather comprehensive data on economic activities. 3. SAS - Systematic Administrated Statistics: Involves systematic data collection methods for statistical analysis. 📚 Terms Introduced: Before diving into fieldwork, Mr. Agboola briefed us on key terms like Enumeration Area (EA), EA map/Line map, Building (Structure), Household (HH), Housing Unit (HU), Listing etc. 📍 First Fieldwork Focus: Our initial fieldwork centered around the Enumeration Area (EA) in Ikolaba GRA, Ibadan North, Oyo State. The process began with listing exercises, where we documented structures starting from NBS/SIWES/2024/001 to the last structure. Listing Exercises: The listing exercises are crucial for understanding the total number of structures in our EA. This information guides the selection of structures to be interviewed for the survey. Reflecting on a Remarkable Journey at the National Bureau of Statistics, Dar es Salaam 📊 Our last day in the office with my fellow field students marks the end of an insightful PT at the National Bureau of Statistics. Over the past weeks, I’ve had the privilege of engaging in impactful projects, ranging from data collection on food security to collaborating on econometric analysis for policy recommendations. Key learnings I’ve gained: • Project Leadership: Led a data-driven project on food security assessment in rural Tanzania. • Advanced Data Analysis: Mastered tools like Stata and Excel to interpret complex datasets and derive actionable insights. • Collaboration & Teamwork: Gained experience in working with an exceptional team, learning the value of synergy in achieving project goals. • Policy Impact: Contributed to reports that provide vital insights for policymakers and future economic research. The title of the dataset I worked on is Life Expectancy which was provided by Quantum Analytics NG. Project Overview: Dataset Title: Life Expectancy Provider: Quantum Analytics NG Key Performance Indicators (KPIs): The following key performance indicators (KPIs) were derived during the analysis: Average GDP Average Population Total Expenditure Number of countries Average Life expectancy From there, I moved to in-depth analyses by going deeper into various facets of Life Expectancy and data 1. Top 10 countries by GDP 2. Total Expenditure by country 3. Average Life expectancy by year 4. Life expectancy by country 5.
