Public programs and budgets have long integrated gender and climate analyses (with different level of success)—30+ years of gender budgeting and more recent climate assessments, and it is great when we see this work entering private sector more prominently. 💡 Hereby sharing Business Fights Poverty paper "Why look at gender and climate change together in supply chains?". 🌿🌍Excellent summary of how to integrate gender and climate objectives in company work and supply chains, for better results for all. Gender equity needs to be at the heart of climate action. A just transition must work for everyone—yet gender equity in climate finance, energy access, and decision-making is still gridlocked at #COP29. Parties must act decisively to deliver an inclusive work programme on gender that accelerates a #FairTransitionForAll It's gender Day today at COp29 and I support the widespread, global call for the leaders and decision makers at #COP29 to commit to systemic changes: 👉 Fair representation of women in decision-making, gender-responsive climate finance, and 👉Inclusion of care economy principles in the energy transition. Why? Because right now, several critical gender-related challenges remain unresolved: ♀️Limited women's participation in key decision-making processes 🗣️Gender equality remains gridlocked in negotiations, preventing meaningful progress 💰Uncertainty around gender-responsive climate finance, which is vital for equitable transitions 👥Overlooking the care economy in Just Transition plans, leaving key dimensions of social equity unaddressed. The Asia Clean Energy Forum 2024, held from June 3-7, showcased research findings by Dr. Hans Holzhacker, Chief Economist of the #CARECInstitute, and Dr. Dina Azhgaliyeva, Senior Research Fellow at the ADB Institute. The presentation eluded the significance of empowering women for the clean energy transition and the advancement of sustainable energy practices. The presentation, derived from the CAREC Institute’s research project “Household Access to Energy in the Fergana Valley,” revealed a pivotal finding: female household heads who are employed tend to prioritize family health and environmental factors when choosing fuels for heating and cooking significantly more than unemployed women or male household heads. The research findings presented by Dr. Hans Holzhacker and Dr. Dina Azhgaliyeva offer valuable contributions to the ongoing discourse on gender equality and sustainable energy solutions in the CAREC region. The joint research of the CAREC Institute and the ADB Institute not only emphasizes the importance of gender empowerment but also paves the way for a more inclusive and environmentally conscious future. https://lnkd.in/gMEyGdUs
