You will be responsible for assisting with the planning and delivery of a growing portfolio of in-person, hybrid and virtual events organised by UNEP-WCMC. My research focuses on assessing the demand for event setup crews in the UAE, identifying key sectors driving this demand and exploring potential skill gaps in the workforce. Key Research Questions: - What is the current demand for event setup crews across various sectors in the UAE? - Are there regional variations in the need for event setup crews within the UAE? - How does the availability of trained personnel impact event operations in the UAE? - What challenges do event organizers face in recruiting event setup crews? Literature Review: While the UAE is renowned for hosting major international events, there is limited research on the demand for event setup crews. My study aims to address this gap and understand the workforce dynamics in the events industry. Methodology: - Quantitative Research: Conducting surveys with event organizers, companies, and venue managers to gather data on demand trends and recruitment practices. - Qualitative Research: Interviews with key stakeholders to explore workforce dynamics and skill gaps. - Secondary Data Analysis: Reviewing industry reports to provide a broader context for the research. Ever since I started working as an event manager, when I meet new people, I often get asked the million dollar question: ❔ "How did you end up in event management with a degree in International Relations?" The truth is, the path I chose years ago didn’t turn out to be the one I wanted. When I first started studying International Relations, I thought my career would go in a very different direction—perhaps policy work or diplomacy. But as I got further into it, I realized that while I loved the global perspective, the traditional roles in the field didn’t feel like the right fit. Fast forward to 2021, when I started freelancing as an event manager. Suddenly, everything clicked. Organizing events—especially for EU institutions—allowed me to combine what I’d learned in International Relations with something I was truly passionate about: bringing people together, creating spaces for meaningful dialogue, and fostering collaboration across borders. Event management may seem worlds apart from my original studies, but in reality, they’re deeply connected. It’s about understanding cultural dynamics, managing diverse perspectives, and making sure everyone has a voice. Those are the skills I gained from my degree, and they’re the ones I apply every day in my work.
