What will the arms race look like in the field of neurotechnology?
We know that for China, for example, the development of neurotechnologies is one of the top priorities.

"The 2024 Edelman Trust Barometer reveals a new paradox at the heart of society. Rapid innovation offers the promise of a new era of prosperity, but instead risks exacerbating trust issues, leading to further societal instability and political polarization.
In a year where half the global population can vote in new leaders, the acceptance of innovation is essential to the success of our society. While people agree that scientists are essential to the acceptance of innovation, many are concerned that politics has too much influence on science. This perception is contributing to the decline of trust in the institutions responsible for steering us through change and towards a more prosperous future."

Some interesting findings from the JP Morgan Conference in SF:
1. It seems clear that its the time for neurotech to build commercial traction. With the fundraising markets still slow, many investors want to see visions and plans backed with commercial traction. This isn't trivial for neurotech, as many technologies are still in development and far from the market.
2. Longitudinal, real-world, high-quality data are of utmost importance. Building sensors that are actually worn and used in everyday life seem to be a highly anticipated strategy. Also the neurotech "killer app" being described as a early detection for Alzheimer's and cognitive decline further cements the need for high-quality longitudinal data for trend detection.
3. It's not enough to just monitor data. Intervention, in the form of modulation, is gaining momentum. Something not to be overlooked are "minimally-invasive" or "soft" forms of modulation, for example in the form of accoustics and audio. This has high potential for the consumer segment.
4. With neurotech becoming a bigger part of everyday life, consumer and clinical use cases, the need for strong neuroethics are as high as never before.
I am happy to read Naveen Rao's take on JPM Conference 2024 because I see so much of the IDUN Technologies core vision in these statements; Building a consumer earbud with brain-sensing capabilities allows for continuous, high-quality recordings and direct interventions (via CBT or acoustics). With the work we have done on our IDUN Guardian, we can scale commercially, in our partnerships with academia, startups and larger corporates. Lastly, I remain excited about building a better future with neurotech, but it needs a focus on neuroethics. I think we have done fantastic work at IDUN thanks to Moritz Thielen who is spearheading this initiative.

We at Inner Sanctum Vector N360™ are honored to feature David M. Luna (罗文礼) 🦏🌎🐘 's incisive and enlightening article in our January 2024 edition. His analysis delves deeply into the critical and often overlooked issues of illicit trade, corruption, and their far-reaching impact on global security and economy. Luna's expertise, particularly in examining the role of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) in these transnational activities, sheds light on the complexities of the global illicit economy.
It's a subject that touches on several trillion dollars of illicit proceeds annually, affecting everything from national security to international relations and domestic prosperity. This exploration of the dark underbelly of global trade and its implications is a crucial read for anyone interested in understanding the intertwining of organized crime, politics, and economics.
We are proud to contribute to this vital conversation by bringing such critical insights to our readers worldwide. Stay tuned for this compelling piece in our publication, where we continue to bridge borders and bring to light the pressing issues shaping our world.

📢 New B-CRATOS Focus on #neuroethics culminating in a webinar this coming October!
💡 The B-CRATOS Project aims to produce technologies that allow for better integration of #bci with the body, through in-body and advanced #wirelesscommunication , with hopes to reduce visibility and user stigma, improve potential for privacy, and boost user safety. However, it is clear that any team working on these topics should consider all aspects of the ethical landscape as they advance to higher TRL and eventually into pre-clinical and clinical trials hence this very important #neuroethics focus.
🔷 To ground the conversation, here we link a 2020 Review Paper on #Ethics in BCI Technology. Coin et al. identify trends and areas of debate across articles in academic literature from 2016-2020, within the proposed 8 theme framework by Burwell et al (2017).
🔷Unsurprisingly, they found typical topics such as user safety, autonomy, and research-related themes like informed consent are often discussed in literature, while social factors such as stigma, societal implications, equitable access, and potential #military use were less often addressed in the reviewed publications.
🔷The authors conclude that the Burwell neuroethical framework remains relevant but also suggest expanding with consideration of psychological distress and harm to animals based on more recent interviews and developments in private industry.
