A large proportion of children experience sexual violence but do not seek help especially children aged 13-17years. Despite the widespread experience of sexual violence by children, only a few cases are reported to authorities, this is because most children find it difficult to open up and this has created a big gap in accessing sufficient evidence to sustain the charge in courts of law which adversely impacts children's access to justice. Such low levels of perpetrator apprehension have enabled impunity, allowing perpetrators to continue with the harmful practices and exacerbating the sexual violence faced by children. Policies, commitments and standards to apply zero tolerance to #sexualexploitation, #abuse, and #harrassment do exist. However, they are not consistently joined or applied across #humanitariandevelopmentpeace (HDP) work. The Common Approach to Protection from SEAH (CAPSEAH) brings together for the first time actions from existing PSEAH (Protection from SEAH) practices, policies and standards into a #guide that everyone working in HDP settings can endorse and use to align their work on PSEAH. CAPSEAH aims to drive alignment of effort, improved accountability, prevention of SEAH cases, and improved response and support to victim-survivors. It is needed to support global, regional, national and local efforts to deliver peace, prosperity, poverty reduction and the SDGs. Do you know- today is the International Day for the Elimination of Sexual Violence in Conflict During the armed conflict in Nepal (1996-2006), sexual violence was tragically used as a weapon by both Maoist insurgents and government forces. Despite around 300 reported cases, the true scale of the atrocities is believed to be much higher due to underreporting caused by fear, stigma, and lack of access to justice. The long-term psychological, physical, and social impacts on survivors are profound, and many continue to seek justice and reparation. The transitional justice process in Nepal has very made limited progress (and now it's almost stopped without any conclusion), underscoring the need for increased attention and support for these issues. We must advocate for comprehensive measures to address past injustices and ensure support for survivors. FGM is often life-threatening and tragic. The deaths of two girls in Sierra Leone earlier this month, Salamatu Jalloh and Kadiatu Bangura, aged 13 and 7, highlight the urgent need to combat FGM. It’s disheartening that, within just two years since the death of Maseray Sei, we are facing yet another devastating reminder of the consequences of this harmful practice. Though 83% of women and girls in the country have undergone the cut, Sierra Leone is one of only four countries in Africa which is yet to pass a specific law prohibiting FGM. It is imperative for policymakers and leaders to proactively formulate laws against this violation of human rights and effectively implement existing laws to ensure justice for survivors and the families of victims. We call for sustained collaboration among NGOs, policymakers, community leaders, and individuals in Sierra Leone to intensify efforts in eradicating FGM. The time for policymakers to act is now – formulating and enforcing laws against FGM and safeguarding the lives of young girls. Gender-based violence (GBV) continues to be a growing concern in Kenya today, with females bearing the brunt of its effects. One in three Kenyan females has experienced an episode of sexual violence before attaining the age of 18, while between 39% and 47% of Kenyan women experience GBV in their lifetime. Catholic Medical Mission Board- Kenya (cmmb) is playing its role in ending violence against women and girls by preventing, addressing structural barriers, identifying, and responding to GBV cases, and supporting technical working groups and Court Users Committees that bring together all duty-bearers to strengthen GBV prevention and response structures. #healthierlivesworldwide #stopfemicide #StopGBV
