It's been six months since I stepped into the role of Associate Director of Allied Health Professions (AHPs) here at Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. And one question I hear quite often is: 'What exactly do you do?' Well, instead of just telling you, I thought I'd show you! Hard agree. There are other aspects of the report that can be used as levers and helpful framings: the emphasis on service improvement, rather than restructure, the reporting of actual patient and user experiences as decisive outcome indicators, and the criticism of the current model of oversight and accountability. In my view this all opens up a necessary debate about whose health service this is, and how people (staff and patients) can and must be enabled to change the things they know aren't working.
There’s a small but important section in today’s report by #LordDarzi on the state of the NHS in England which calls for a ‘stronger #patientvoice’ in the #NHS. In the same breath he underlines the need for NHS staff to be empowered. Together, patients and NHS staff, supported to work in partnership, will be a vital foundation for rebuilding a resilient and responsive NHS. For those of us committed to a stronger #patientvoice there have been few policy levers to pull to persuade Goverrnment of the importance of creating the right environment in which it can be heard. But here is one and we have to work together to pull it hard. https://lnkd.in/eP9inz28

"Wes Streeting said he has been “genuinely stunned” by the NHS failings he has learned about since becoming health secretary." Keep reading that the NHS is broken, but who broke it, why and for what reason. See they are undertaking an independent performance review, will that be considering all influences, do hope so, a system can be made up of many parts, both in-house and out-house ... 🧐 Have had both good and bad experiences in a hospital setting, quite variable actually, why would that be, think there has to be a reason. One thing is for sure, have always ended up getting the care necessary to see me on my way, can only be appreciative of that, even if sometimes it wasn't as smooth sailing as it could be. #thinkingaboutthings #justanotherthought #thinkingdifferently #onebigchocolateeg #beavoice #beanecho #dotherightthing #stopthespread #dowehavetolivewithit #circular #donotstareatgoats #whatdoyouthink #wonderlust #wanderlust #wherediditcomefrom #whoknows #cananyonehelp #donotgowiththeflow #dejavu #onebigchocolateegg https://lnkd.in/evwBhjNe

As we lead NHS organisations across the country we are struggling on two fronts. Quality of care of care is up LOS is down in many Trusts and is substantially improved. (Length of stay) Activity is up and remains high But the demand is still pouring through the door. We all have financial responsibilities and restrictions. This means we are running fast..with less power - people and resources in the tank. I watch patterns. In the last 30 years of these patterns what happens next… We are safer, more effective, financially stable and innovative in the growth zone……

The NHS is ‘broken’ – but is that the whole story? Undoubtedly, our NHS is under tremendous pressure, but calling it ‘broken’ may not be the answer. Senior NHS officials caution that such messaging could have unintended consequences – discouraging patients from seeking necessary care and demoralising the dedicated staff who keep the system running. Impact of ‘broken’ NHS messaging - Repeated claims of a ‘broken’ system could harm staff morale and patient behaviour. It’s essential to consider how we communicate the challenges facing the NHS without undermining the incredible efforts of those on the front lines. Balancing honesty with hope - Yes, the NHS is facing significant challenges. But can acknowledging these issues in a balanced way help us find solutions? Or does the current messaging risk doing more harm than good? Let’s discuss how we can support the NHS by highlighting its struggles and successes, fostering a narrative that encourages improvement rather than disillusionment. #NHS #Healthcare #Leadership #SupportOurNHS #HealthcareProfessionals https://bbc.in/3THC7PD

The NHS Recently I had an operation and was fortunate to experience great care from staff who were both caring and knowledgeable. I was treated with respect and dignity about my choices. Offering affirmations and compliments is a positive way to celebrate and acknowledge what staff have done. The media often shows the NHS in a negative light, rarely do we see the NHS staff and care being celebrated. That being said the NHS is not a perfect system, an institution that needs something what that is I can’t say or what will fix it I’m unsure. It is a system which at the heart has people who go to work hoping to help and make a difference. Working for the NHS has taught me that the smallest things can make the biggest difference to people. I feel privileged to provide support and care, be part of lives and be there when they people are often at their most vulnerable. I work with some amazing people,a team support me, so we can provide clean, safe and personal patient centred care. #consent #informedconsent #medicalconsent #PowerOfAffirmations #SelfGrowth #PositiveMindset #ConfidenceBoost #Gratitude #Shifting Negativity

Our NHS is undoubtedly under immense pressure, but labelling it as ‘broken’ might not be the solution. While the challenges are real, it's crucial to balance honesty with hope. Senior NHS officials remind us that such messaging could discourage patients from seeking care and affect staff morale. Let’s discuss how we can acknowledge these difficulties while also recognising the dedication of NHS staff and the positive strides being made. Together, we can support the NHS in overcoming these obstacles. #NHS #Healthcare #SupportOurNHS #Leadership #HealthcareProfessionals
