Younger people, aged between 18 and 46, are buying more new manual transmission cars than before. We are saving the manuals! 💪🏽 Manual cars hit their lowest market share in 2021, making up less than 1% of new car sales. However, sales have since rebounded to 1.7% in 2023, a 12.2% increase year-to-date. The Wall Street Journal notes that more buyers, especially younger ones, are actively seeking manual cars. Despite the decline in the number of models with manual transmissions from 69 in 2019 to 43 today, enthusiasts are still supporting the market. Brands like Cadillac, Acura, and Mazda have seen higher demand for their manual models. For instance, Cadillac reports strong sales for the manual CT4-V and CT5-V Blackwing, while Acura says 25% of new Integras are manual, and Mazda no longer offers an automatic Miata. This trend continues even as some sports cars, like the Corvette, move to automatic or electric-only options. Both Mazda and Porsche have committed to keeping manual options in their flagship sports cars, signalling a potential resurgence. Manual transmission gear heads aren’t going away, with younger buyers showing significant interest. While manuals remain a niche market, their continued appeal means automakers may keep offering them to meet demand. What do you think?
