CES is chaos. There's no other way to describe it. 150 countries. 1400 startups. 4300 total exhibitors. 135,000 attendees. To get discovered in the chaos of it is one thing. But to get discovered AND to be applauded, amongst this vast pool of companies, was nothing short of a miracle. From the steady flow of attendees and tour groups to being honored with - not one - but two awards, our team was feeling the love for Lotus (Techstars'23)! But don’t take my word for it. Best part about conferences: seeing alllllll your people in real life who are usually tiny boxes on a glowing screen, and realizing that while we make good connections online, we make great connections in person. Second best part of conferences: solving problems with a little time and attention. Customer was nervous about training her field teams on our Traqspera app, so we rehearsed it once or twice and then recorded a quick video. It wasn’t her biggest concern coming here, but it was an easy one for me to pitch in on. Worst part of conferences: losing my voice seemingly every time, even though I only had one short presentation here at CFMA.

🚀 Key Takeaways from the AAC Conference! 🚀 Here are some of the key takeaways that we took from the AAC conference for your information: 🏡 Federal Housing Plans: - The government plans to build 1.2 million homes to address the housing crisis, but the skills shortage makes this ambitious. One solution is increasing skilled workers via immigration, though this could further strain the housing market. We recently posted more details about this on our website and LinkedIn. 👷 Certifier Mentor Programs: - With many certifiers ageing, the AAC discussed a shift toward mentor programs to support younger certifiers. 🛠️ Building Commissioner Updates: - The current Building Commissioner has made significant industry changes and is leaving soon. The commissioner's office is also launching a defects library to support construction professionals to build industry capability, it will be released 13 June. 🖥️ Planning Portal Issues: - Universal frustration with the Planning Portal! The AAC advocates for better training, reinstating the helpline, introducing a 'not applicable' button, and real-time testing. 📜 New Building Act: - The NSW government committed to creating a new Building Act which utilises plain English. The new Building Act will consolidate and modernise many pieces of legislation, some decades old, scattered throughout the state’s statute books. It’s intended to reduce complexity. It was suggested Chat GPT 4.0 can help certifiers on a daily basis, with regulatory guidance and quick access to building codes, amongst other things. AI experts suggested integrating AI into businesses and creating strategic workforce plans. 📊 Chain of Responsibility: - A preview of an infographic highlighting the chain of responsibility for design and construction was shared. It is intended to create more clarity around the responsible parties in the end-to-end process. Amongst other highlights!
