Employees in companies with fewer than 200 workers shoulder a larger burden of family coverage premiums compared to their counterparts in larger firms (38% vs. 25%), as revealed by the 2023 Kaiser Family Foundation 'Employer Health Benefits Survey.' Beyond facing higher premium costs, employees in small firms are burdened with elevated deductibles and increased out-of-pocket medical expenses. - About 59% of employees in small firms have a family-plan deductible of at least $3,000 before the plan will start covering most services. - Some 34% of workers in small firms have a family-plan deductible of at least $5,000, and it may be higher if multiple family members have to spend towards the deductible during the plan year. In recent posts I have been highlighting the importance of various aspects of the ACA Employer Mandate requirements. Another important aspect of the Employer Mandate is ensuring that the employer’s group health plan is considered “affordable.” Here's a great article that I thought I would pass along from WEX that does a good job explaining affordability and how it is determined. https://lnkd.in/ekzYcgF2

🚨The IRS has just announced a key update impacting employer-sponsored health coverage under the ACA, and it’s great news for employers! 🔔For 2025, the affordability percentage has jumped to 9.02% of household income, up from 8.39% in 2024. This change gives applicable large employers (ALEs) more flexibility in the premium amounts they can charge while still meeting the ACA's “affordable” coverage standards. Key Employer Action Items: ✔️ Review your ALE status for 2025. ✔️ Confirm that your 2025 health plan offering is affordable and meets minimum value. ✔️ Prepare for ACA reporting due in Q1 2025. #ACA #EmployerHealthCoverage #IRSUpdate #EmployeeBenefits #HRNews #UBA

Mercer has released the results of its Survey on #HealthandBenefit Strategies for 2025. Despite higher #healthcare cost trends, just 14% of large employers say it’s very likely in 2025 that they will initiate plan design changes such as raising deductibles or out-of-pocket maximums and copays, and 31% said it's at least likely. Employers are juggling faster cost growth with the need to offer attractive benefits and keep healthcare affordable for all employees. It's important for employers to assess investments in employee health “more carefully than ever” to create long-term value for workers. #HealthandWelfareBenefits #risinghealthcarecosts

The IRS has significantly increased the group health plan affordability threshold — which is used to determine if an employer's lowest-premium health plan complies with the Affordable Care Act rules — for plan years starting in 2025. The higher threshold will give employers a little more wiggle room when setting their workers' premium cost-sharing level for their lowest-cost plans in 2025, to avoid running afoul of the ACA and being hit with penalties. What's the new affordability level? Find out here. https://bit.ly/3zOohEg
