Thanks for having me Leaders in Logistics: Thank you for many insightful conversations and discussions! 🌟 I had the privilege to join a fireside chat alongside Patrick Nicolas Lindby (Posten Bring AS), moderated by Tim Davies (DPD UK). We explored the world of e-commerce supply chain transformation, discussing warehouse automation, #fulfillment strategies, and the role of robotics. 💡 One key #takeaway resonated with me: the importance of a connected value chain. We discussed the disconnect between #ecommerce stakeholders, from consumers to merchants to the last mile. Currently, the collaboration is broken, with manual communication between consumers and shops, and shops and warehouses. All stakeholders suffer from this! ⚡️ Decoupled software solutions only exacerbate the issue, failing to integrate order statuses, tracking, returns and other crucial functions. Valuable consumer insights remain trapped within merchant systems, hindering the potential for a truly interconnected #experience. ⚙️ What's needed is a #software platform that seamlessly integrates all systems, bridging the gap between consumers, merchants, and warehouses. This deep integration is essential for a fully functional and efficient e-commerce ecosystem. For example, this would enable the direct communication of consumers with the warehouse on incorrect addresses - no need to involve a shop’s customer service and lots of email ping pong in between. 🤝 It's time to shift towards a more integrated approach, both in the systems that support e-commerce and in our mindset towards collaboration. As part of developing our newly released State of Shipping Report I wanted to make sure we asked retailers about their tech stack. I wanted all of us to get a peek under the hood to see how many tools and platforms retailers use to run their businesses! 🔗 Nearly 60% of retailers use Shippit, with most now using 2 or more platforms in their tech stack to support their ecommerce and delivery oprtations. Having the right technology stack is crucial for achieving shipping and fulfilment efficiency, and we’re seeing retailers being increasingly selective about working with the best-of-breed tech platforms. As called out by our friend Carlee at Fluent Commerce: “Choosing the right tech stack will help minimise errors, reduce operational costs, and improve overall customer satisfaction.” For us at Shippit, this means we need to always make sure our platform is interoperable and works seamlessly with other key technologies that retailers trust.
