Celebrating World Coffee Day: Moldova's Coffee Consumption Boom On October 1st, we celebrate World Coffee Day. Over the past decade, coffee consumption in Moldova has witnessed a staggering 18% annual growth per adult. In 2000, the average Moldovan consumed just one cup of coffee per year, but by 2024, this figure has skyrocketed to 167 cups annually. This shift reflects changes in consumption preferences, urbanization, and rising disposable incomes. Looking ahead, projections suggest a slight deceleration, yet Moldova will continue to experience robust growth at 15% annually, positioning the country to surpass the current global average consumption of 277 cups per year by 2028. As we celebrate the rich, diverse culture of coffee, let us also acknowledge the economic opportunities it presents. The future of coffee in Moldova is bright, and we can expect continued growth and development in this evolving sector. #WorldCoffeeDay #CoffeeIndustry #Moldova #BusinessGrowth #B2B #EconomicTrends #Tchibo #TrigorAVD

The "strong potential" of the rum category has been marketing blarney for all of the 21st century and a ship which has yet to come in and deliver the treasure. And no brand more epitomizes this false hope than Havana Club, the most wildly inconsistent brand on the rum shelf, due to neverending interference from the Cuban Communist Party, and something not worth paying the price for when you can buy industrial rum from Bacardi or Diageo at far lower price points and get a much more consistent and reliable product. It's corporate overlords in the capitalist world are more than capable managers who can run excellent distilleries elsewhere; they just can't in Cuba precisely because of the Communist Party. Most of the Caribbean Basin produces superior product, even the communist dictatorships in Nicaragua and Venezuela, at lower pricepoints. I've sampled a good two dozen of Havana Club's bottles outside the US over the years. Only two of them were worth drinking and they were excellent. Those 7-year old bottles were far outside the norm and all the 15-year bottles were just outrageously overpriced swill. Rum is the most widely produced hard liquor on the planet and almost everything which is aged is better from someplace else.
Interested in learning more about the strong potential of the rum category? We met Havana Club CEO Christian Barré to discuss all things Havana Club, from the US-Cuba trade embargo and rum regulations to premiumisation and the importance of the on-trade for "El Ron de Cuba".
