'The multitude and scale of crises the #EU institutions have faced during this legislature have strenuously tested EU policymakers and policymaking processes. 📈 Economic growth is still presented as the answer to all the crises and challenges our society faces. However, our current course is growing us further and deeper into crises, as well as creating new ones. The well-being economy approach provides solutions to the complex questions we must now answer.' 📰 Read Aileen McLeod and Laura Rayner's latest European Policy Centre Commentary 'Protective, preventative policymaking fit for the future' 👇 https://lnkd.in/eb9AmhkE

Trust in #transformation, cross-sectoral ambition start at home. These findings of our field study, "Regions on the way to the #EGD" are written all over the opening event of the European Committee of the Regions at a thematic week on #cities and #regions in Brussels today. "Regions and cities are first responders to climate change – they have to be listened to." -- "Regional and local leaders enjoy highest level of trust by citizens." says Vasco Alves Cordeiro, President of the CoR. We here in the #Alps fully underline what we hear from #Brussels today, i.e. to: - Invest significantly in climate adaptation and mitigation with a place-based strategy to preserve cohesion and resilience across regions and cities and in the face of the disruptive and asymmetric effects of climate change, as well as biodiversity loss. - Support sustainable local agriculture and partner with local and regional authorities to help make European food systems more resilient and sustainable. - Ensure more support to implement the #EuropeanGreenDeal and the #SDGs at local and regional level. - Unlock #investments for the #green and #digital transitions, supporting people and reducing inequalities, while also fostering the industrial competitiveness of European regions. - Reform #cohesion policy with a #mission and #placebased approach, applying the principle of “do no harm to cohesion” across all policies. https://lnkd.in/dfYbbGAv New European Bauhaus Claudia Crawford Martin Selmayr Christian Gsodam Kaiser Peter Anton Mattle Patrizia Isabelle Nanz Irene Häntschel-Erhart Philipp Heel Veronika Sexl Stephen Bosacker Paul Costello Michael Stellwag Eva Pawlata Andrew Holland Joséphine von Mitschke-Collande Nicolas Krausz Stefan Wallner Ruth Williams Felicitas von Peter Susanna Krueger Jan Peter Schemmel Barbara Schedler Fischer Christoph Thun-Hohenstein Verena Kaspar-Eisert Bettina Steindl Bettina Leidl Stefanie B. Heard from such a range of participants about local initiatives and monitoring efforts / in this session from Armenia and the UL (amongst others). Post-revolution and conflict there is a lot to do. Multistakeholder groups are pivotal. Stability in the public service is more than helpful, and it is necessary to constantly extend the range of people consulted - getting beyond the ‘usual suspects’. Was a persistent refrain. Validation of ideas across a range of stakeholders promoted innovation and stable outcomes. But the point was also made that there is a need to remain adaptive. (This is of course a critical Issue in respect of climate change as well as the more usual conflict scenarios). The development of local OGP groups is seen as a beacon of OGP. Many participants spoke of the work they are doing in this regard and of their commitment to begin and build. Initiatives such as government portals, auditing and monitoring, broadening the base, and including youth were referenced. At one panel whicn I joined the ‘economic cost’ of embedded stakeholder engagement was raised as an issues. Interestingly from my inquiries only our Australian multi stakeholder forum has embraced the need to include the perspectives of people from the neurodiverse community. We shared our insights on this to the extent that we could at this early stage of the development of our NAP. It was somewhat gratifying to here about how the Phillipines undertake regional dialogues, noting that this is one of the pivotal features of the Uluṟu Statement from the Heart process of Australia and the proposal of the ‘First nations Voice’ in our constitution emerged from those two interlinked exercises in community dialogue.

Our world faces pressing challenges in the pursuit of a sustainable future. Although we are two-thirdway through the 2030 Agenda, we are still far off track from reaching the Sustainable Development Goals. Realizing the goals is still possible by uniting governments, civil societies, businesses, communities and individuals With only 6 years left until 2030, United Nations Regional Commissions will come together at High-Level Political Forum to share solutions and recommendations from regions, aiming to achieve the 2030 Agenda on time.
