5 Ways To Upgrade To First Class On American Airlines

In the spirit of fairness, today was a perfect flight on American Airlines to complete yesterday’s travels from Scotland. 1) 6:00am flight from ATL to DFW left almost 10 minutes early. Gotta love the operational focus on the day’s first bank of flights. 2) Wifi worked. That may seem minor, but wifi is a minimum viable product attribute for those who need/want the business and personal productivity of staying connected. 3) Personal status recognized with a first class upgrade. The trifecta - operational excellence, easy to buy, personalized.  Rinse and repeat! Contrary to some views, I actually prefer these positive examples over the negative ones. Lessons can certainly be learned from both, but those who know me know I get my energy from positivity. Just as the morning sunrise represents a new day of possibilities (see what I did there with this morning's window pic 😀 ), I am going to start taking a slightly different approach with my posts going forward. More on that soon. Bottom line from this trip, while there were many areas for retailing/experience delivery improvements, I arrived home safely and that is priority # 1.  And for that, thank you American Airlines and British Airways.

Southwest Airlines: no longer leading in fare/prices, issues with on time arrivals/departures, and now assigned seating like every other airline (and they’ll be retrofitting cabins for more legroom). Yesterday I had the such an extraordinary customer service experience with United Airlines that I smiled all day. I started out with a horrific experience with American Airlines (Background: I'm an AA million-mile flyer!). They found problems that required multiple agents, rules, long hold times, and 'Sorry. You'll need to do that part on line and get back to us.' Finally, after being on hold for the second time (20 minutes) I hung up and called United. My goodness. Kudos to whomever trained them! Everyone was kind, helpful, and creative, seeking to make sure I got my needs met. When switching to a different department (it was quite complex), the original agent stayed on the line with and introduced me to the follow-on, avoiding a long hold. The entire process took less time - with fabulous results! I got exactly what I wanted! - than all the time I spent fighting the AA system. It's exciting to know that with so much automation these days, there's a company that truly serves their customers.
