Let's explore MPEG-5 Part-1, also known as EVC (Essential Video Coding). It's a video standard supported by Samsung Electronics, Huawei, Qualcomm, and Divideon. EVC consists of two profiles: the Baseline Profile and the Main Profile. The Baseline Profile uses expired patents, making it royalty-free! Yep, you heard that right—no licensing fees! On the other hand, the Main Profile requires royalties and introduces fresh and innovative coding tools, allowing for greater compression and better video quality. Go here to know more about EVC: https://lnkd.in/g6siGY2z #VideoCompression #MPEG5 #EVC #ExcitingTimes #Codecs #OTTVerse #AVC #HEVC #VVC #AV1 #transcoding #encoding

The advancement continues in providing advanced video codecs, such as VVC, that provide significant improvements in management of bit-rate requirements related to 8K, while retaining the highest quality. With the continual rise of streaming as the primary source of entertainment for consumers, the reduction in bit-rate for delivering 8K is critical to providing a viable path for distributing native 8K content to extract the maximum emotional impact that 8K technology provides. #8K#8KAssociation

Today’s Opinion of Advocate General #Medina in the #Intel case on the As-Efficient-Competitor (#AEC) test delivers no big surprises. The EU courts had already clarified: While there is no general obligation for the Commission to carry out an AEC test to demonstrate that conduct is capable of restricting competition, where it does carry out such test, it needs to do so properly. In particular, it needs to use reliable data (Intel) and calculate costs correctly (Google Android). AG Medina now opines that where the Commission has carried out an AEC test, it also needs to take such test into account as a factor in assessing whether the conduct is capable of restricting competition. However, the Commission would have a margin of discretion with respect to the application of the AEC test to a specific conduct, in particular in terms of the selection of the economic parameters and the relevant reference period. Last week, AG Kokott had already cautioned against an excessive application of the AEC test. Today’s opinion provides further arguments against any general AEC principle in EU competition law. The Commission’s legal battles around its own AEC test remind of Frankenstein’s “the monster we created”. #antitrust

We've built our Aurora5 MV-HEVC encoder, leveraging AI-driven video compression technologies. Moreover, through a collaboration between #Visionular and the HDR Nova team, we also contributed a patch to #MP4BOX: >> https://lnkd.in/gEZgfbVj, which allows one can re-encode spatial videos following these steps: (1) taking an Apple iPhone Pro captured .mov file, (2) obtaining the left and right view YUV file via MP4BOX, (3) encoding using the MV-HEVC #HTM reference encoder, or our Aurora5 MV-HEVC encoder, and (4) wrapping the encoded elementary bitstreams to .mov file, again via MP4BOX, ready for playback in Apple Vision Pro. The MP4BOX patch we submitted contains two key items: (1) Parsing fix for the SPS, and (2) Embedding the 3D reference display info SEI message. Our Aurora5 MV-HEVC enables real-time encoding of spatial videos to significantly smaller sizes while maintaining high quality. We'd love to talk to anyone interested in exploring various spatial videos captured by an iPhone 15 Pro, experiencing different configurations of MV-HEVC encoding, and enjoying their diverse visual effects on an Apple Vision Pro device. Join us for further discussions!

How many patents are you carrying on you right now? Simply owning a mobile phone probably means you're probably carrying hundreds. Patents are one of the most comprehensive ways to protect people's creative rights and ideas. Patents A patent grants exclusive rights to an invention for a specific time, usually 20 years, allowing the patent owner to prevent others from using, making, or selling the invention without consent. Free emulation download available: https://lnkd.in/eYZMWrWn Sound demos: https://lnkd.in/effvgnsg Introducing Hyperdust, the modular synth that’s both an explorer and a rebel. This multi-timbral physical modeling wizard can smoothly mimic acoustic instrument vibes or dive into the depths of otherworldly synthetic textures. It’s got a bit of an aggressive side too, with a roomy reverb that lets you control time over the buffer, throwing in some tape-ish rewind and overlapping effects when you twist the time knob. There’s more rebellious charm! Hyperdust is loaded with intentional quirks that are just waiting for you to discover and share. Don’t worry, though; when you need it to chill, Hyperdust can dial it down. Yet, it truly shines when it’s feeling a little grumpy. So, embrace the quirks, ride the reverb, and let Hyperdust be your partner in both calm and chaotic sonic adventures. In terms of build quality: -The knobs have a balanced amount of torque, providing a solid feel without being excessively high or low. They are securely attached to the front panel using washers, a common practice among many designers. -Custom-designed and CNC'd, the knobs exhibit a sleek appearance by sitting almost flush with the front panel surface, effectively concealing the washers. -The power header is both shrouded and equipped with protection circuitry for added safety. -The module is a hybrid design, incorporating both analog and digital components. Due to the high component density, creating a DIY version is uncertain at this point. However, a through-hole board can be provided along with an SMD factory-assembled motherboard in order to aid the complexity. -A polseq firmware update client is available for Windows 10 & 11, as well as Mac OS (Apple Silicon), with an Intel-based version in the works. -The firmware update process is streamlined—simply plug in the cable, and the client will check for updates, asking your permission before proceeding with any necessary updates. -All modules and instruments come with lifetime bugfix support. -A durable silkscreen on the powder-coated high-quality aluminum front panel ensures it outlasts even your endurance.

2024 was already named as 'buy only what make sense' year. And this makes sense - so read on: ASIC technology is incrementally less expensive and uses significantly lower power than other alternatives. Not to look too far - Google and Meta created their own transcoding ASICs. What about you? - we have ASICs ready to deploy! Before you rush and buy a dozen - why not first hear from people who researched, tested and implemented our ASIC in the last couple of months and can tell you real numbers and real outcomes. Speakers include Dylan Patel from SemiAnalysis, Kyle Faber from Edgio, Emilien Gobillot from api.video, Nacho Opazo from Zapping, John O'Neill, Ph.D. and Sean Varley from Ampere, and Yanjun(Daniel) Zhou, Kenneth Robinson, and Mark Donnigan from NETINT Technologies Inc.
