I knew a set of cofounders who individually informed me of their personal plans in the coming years. One was going to start a family, and the other had philanthropic aspirations that included a fair amount of travel. I wondered how much they shared this with one another. I wondered if they discussed it in a manner that was preparatory for the other cofounder. Sometimes I think cofounders underestimate just how intertwined their lives really are. Major life plans WILL affect the business and your cofounder NEEDS to know what they are. The five-year plan will affect how you make decisions for your business so you need to make space for your cofounder's input even if that means creating space for them to prepare and be ready.
