The recent passing of Pat Ottensmeyer has hit us hard. Pat was a tremendous friend of Union Station, a railway industry icon, and a remarkable supporter of so much and so many in Kansas City and beyond. Our hope is in the legacy Pat leaves. A legacy of loyalty and love for his family, friends, and community. Among a lifetime of accomplishments, Pat served as the final President and CEO of Kansas City Southern from 2015 until April 14, 2023, upon the completion of the combination of Canadian Pacific and KCS that created CPKC. Pat was a familiar face at Union Station as a supporter, a business leader, and a devoted family man. Whether he was ringing a holiday bell for The Salvation Army under our historic clock, chairing an industry meeting, or simply enjoying the Station as a father and grandfather, his passions were clear. We will miss Pat and offer our deepest condolences to his fiancée Deanne, his entire family, many friends, and colleagues. Pat will forever be an essential part of the Union Station and Kansas City stories. Photo courtesy of Roy Inman.
I’m so sorry to hear of his passing.
Pat Ottensmeyer was one of the kindest person I knew. He was a smart businessman but most importantly he was an amazing human being. He will be missed.
