Harvey Firestone b. OTD 1868, founder of the Firestone Tire and Rubber Company. He pioneered the manufacture of pneumatic tires for the Ford Model T and many other innovations where the rubber met the road for America’s new auto and trucking industry. Began his career selling horse-drawn carriages. During WWII, Firestone manufactured over 50% of all mobile anti-aircraft gun units and produced millions of tires for military vehicles and planes. How many #mistakes did you make last week? I made a few myself. I can likely recall them. Importantly, I reflect on every mistake I make, embracing my #imperfections, and I strive to improve in handling my mistakes every day. I believe I have improved since yesterday.. One of my goals at SEAMOR Marine Ltd. is to nurture many compassionate leaders if possible, regardless of their titles. Here's a great example by David Hutchens of being tuned into everyday experiences as grist for the storytelling mill! So often, when I'm teaching or coaching about storytelling, people will ask "Where do I find stories?" Stories are everywhere. We find them by paying attention to everyday life. So for starters, anytime you experience something that leaves you: 1. Surprised 2. Amused 3. Inspired 4. Any strong emotion 5. Having a Eureka Moment 6. "Knowing" what's going on with someone else and discovering you're wrong 7. "Knowing" how something is going to turn out and again, discovering you were wrong ...or anything that happens that you find interesting...ask yourself any or all of the following: "This thing that happened....what might it be a metaphor for?" (I never could figure out how to not have the "metaphor for" phrase :-) ) "Is there a lesson here?" "How many different lessons are there?" (You can derive multiple lessons from the same experience) "How could I use this as a teaching/coaching story?"
