After a hiatus of 10 years, I'll be back in beautiful Banff to present at the Multiphase North American Conference next week. I'll be presenting two papers, one titled "Interaction Between CO2 Injection Wells and the Network" and the other "Leak Detection Issues for CO2 and H2 Pipeline Networks". Looking forward to a great event and to soaking up some of the Rockies!

Light reading at the airport. Off to World Oilmen’s Summer Assembly in San Diego. Reading a compulsory pooling document gives me insight into the value Oseberg brings to the table by having all of the data contained in the sea of state, federal and county records contained in non standardized PDF’s into a structured and standardized format that can be streamed, viewed, mapped, searched, filtered and exported. #oseberg#regulatorydata#dataasymmetry
In a couple of weeks, our Executive Vice President, Energy, Gabe Olives, will be speaking at the Sigma Spring Conference in Austin, TX. His session will focus on the dynamic and evolving landscape of fleet payments for petroleum marketers.
Chief Client Officer, Kevin Farley, and W. Capra Consulting Group Associate Director, Zachary Pastko, will also be attending.
Looking forward to gaining new insights and engaging in great conversations at this year's conference!

Have seen a hundred footer only once in 2004 it was for an offshore Trestle; a Firewater pump rated 250 HP, 1800 rpm, and 100 ft long which has a right angle gearbox at top of Trestle because its driven by an emergency Diesel Engine. The pump had about ten stages, vertical turbine type. The Seawater at 40,000 ppm salinity was too agresssive for the original Chrome Cast iron construction, so we decided to do reverse engineering and change all pump volutes, impellers, column spiders, to Duplex SS [ or it may have been 316}. The long Columns were already made of 316 SS pipe and flanges, so these were fine. It was the first time in our company to make a large complete reverse engineering and local company casting so i was proud of our efforts. We asked years later about the pump and it seems to have jumped to an MTBF of ten years minimum which was superior to its much shorter lifespan in the past, about 3 to 4 yrs.
***************************************************************************************
Was asked a question on Seawater Pumps Bushings, this is answer:
For vertical multistage pumps in *** Crude Oil *** service, as long as Columns are well aligned to each other, we found that bushings made from Nitronic-60 will give over 15 years.
For Seawater service, many types available; some good, some outstanding, some give short service life: Polymer Thordon bearings give excellent life, Teflon bearings with Graphite are fine, Rubber Cutlass bearings are not bad, Leaded Bronze is suitable but only with very good column alignmnet otherwise life will get short. Most important is to ensure height of pump is enough so that pump does not drag sand particles from Ocean soil.
Also, the exact bearing clearance is tricky to get right, too large and will have vibration and early failures, too tight and they will seize. I think best formula for Seawater pump Polymer bushings in vertical turbine types is: Shaft OD x 3.5/1000. Sometimes will need lubrication grooves, depends a lot on L/D ratio of bushings. For Medium hard Lead-Bronze Bushings: Use Shaft OD x 4.0/1000.
Last but not least: Always apply a weld cladding [laser is best] on all the lineshaft bushing journals, this will extend life by 300%, no kidding. Material choices of cladding: Stellite, Tungsten Carbide or Martensitic SS. Hardness of cladding at least Rockwell-C 45 and above. Don't use Coatings or HVOF, not reliable here.
Ever wondered what a 100’ pump looks like? Conhagen Louisiana is fitting up this vertical pump in preparation to ship out to one of our offshore customers. Another great job by the team!
Do you know that Triox offers Pipeline Leak Detection and K9 SCAT services with certified handlers and dogs?
Next time you see a dog with its handler meticulously exploring an area on the shoreline or in a field near Sarnia, ON (Canada), it might not be just a walk - they could be sniffing out hidden hydrocarbons during a training session using an imprinting process that includes various identified types of hydrocarbons.
The use of a custom-designed portable carousel for the hydrocarbon imprinting protocol with the canine is an important step. The handler conducts an assessment test with the target hydrocarbon to determine that the operational capability has been achieved prior to field deployment with the dog.
If you want more details on our K9 detection services, come to see us at the IOSC conference, booth 620!
In this interview I visit with seasoned energy industry vet Ed Kovalik, these days the Chairman and C.E.O. of Prairie Operating Co. (NASD-PROP.) Prairie--which obtained its Nasdaq listing right before this past Christmas--has garnered attention, in part, due to its strategy of buying accretive energy assets in what we call a "sweet spot" in the market/industry right now.
Here' you'll learn about both Prairie's core assets it launched with in 2023 and its latest impressive acquisition; this all together with its growth and looming plans for added development and production.
Beyond all this--and solidifying the investment case for Prairie specifically--Ed and Chris also add some key insights on the internal dynamics and pricing of energy to underscore just how out of whack things are…and to reinforce our mutual argument that fossil fuels are not only here to stay for quite some time but that the present represents another great opportunity for long-term investors to load up on "Old Energy."
