Please join us in welcoming our newest member We Want Life (WWL). WWL was founded by Esraa, a cancer patient advocate who has worked with thousands of patients since 2011. She gained in-depth experience in five years and learned valuable insights that led to the establishment of WWL. Patients have something to say, patients have useful input for the policy makers. Patients need guidance to say their insights in a useful way. Patients are the end users of the health care system. Patients need a chair at the table where decisions are made. Patients need training and inspiration to be able to earn the chair. Patients need this chair because they need life to be more precious, they need a quality life, so it is time to start our patient advocacy group, because we all want a life! Empowering patients to positively impact the healthcare system in the best possible way. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/eGAhf8cp

Director of Family Medicine, Director of the Center for Obesity Medicine| Healthcare Executive | Advisory board member
Today, I engaged in a meaningful discussion with a prominent group of family medicine specialists on the Cardio-Renal-Metabolic syndrome and the importance of a patient-centric approach. It was eye-opening to discover a lower-than-expected familiarity with the American Heart Association's Cardio-Renal-Metabolic syndrome staging system among these specialists. Empowering primary care providers, especially family medicine specialists, plays a pivotal role in shaping the future landscape of CRM medicine. #FamilyMedicine #PrimaryCare #HealthcareLeadership #CardioRenalMetabolic

President and CEO | National MS Society | Connecting people, resources and strategy to create a world free of Multiple Sclerosis
Here's a thought experiment - What defines an MS expert? One response is that it's an individual with many years of research and clinical expertise. Indeed this is one way to consider MS expertise. There is another way to look at MS expertise - through the lived experience of people with MS. Viewing expertise through this lens means that there are nearly 3 million MS experts worldwide. People with MS must be engaged to bring their unique perspectives and expertise to inform our drive to cure MS. During last year's ECTRIMS MSMilan 2023 Congress we saw a great example of what this engagement can look like. The ECTRIMS Patient Community Day brought together people with MS, NMOSD, and other demyelinating diseases, researchers, and patient organization leaders for conversations about progress, challenges, and opportunities for impact. In this ECTRIMS podcast, National MS Society leadership volunteer Bonnie L. Higgins and I joined Brett Drummond on the ECTRIMS podcast for a conversation about the ECTRIMS Patient Community Day. We shared our thoughts as a person living with MS (Bonnie) and a patient organization leader (Tim) on the importance of creating these opportunities for collaboration between patients, researchers, and organizations. Thanks to ECTRIMS and Brett Drummond for inviting us to share our thoughts on this important initiative. Together we are stronger. #ms #multiplesclerosis

Professor of Chemistry. Advocate of Transformative Education, Interactive Teaching, & Experiential Learning
The first thing I do early in the morning everyday is to check if new MRVP/MRVP-Int'l projects opened up. It is particularly rewarding when I see an MRVP-Int'l project from a new international PI. This time it is a gastroenterology project by Dr. Suha Jabak from the University of Nebraska Medical Center. #MRVP #TrEd #TransformativeEducation #ExperientialLearning

Dr. Nitya Wadhwa, the lead researcher in the immediate Kangaroo Mother Care (iKMC) trial, reveals the secret behind the trial’s success: teamwork. Immediate Kangaroo Mother Care is transforming neonatal care and saving lives with an approach that emphasizes zero separation between mothers and their newborn preemie babies. https://lnkd.in/dRN9adsw So proud of the work of the medical team at Jack’s Basket as we continue to reframe the diagnosis of Down syndrome for families and healthcare providers. Can’t believe Carissa and her team are celebrating 10 years of celebrating babies. I’ve been honored to serve on the board, emcee the gala, and bring the story across the country at grand rounds and conferences about how clinicians can minimize our own biases by reframing “I’m sorry I have bad news” as “I have some news which may be unexpected.” Statistically, families don’t come to see the diagnosis of Down syndrome as bad and not something we should be apologizing for, and most wouldn’t change the diagnosis but would change how they were told. Checkout the feature in the 10 year anniversary and new curriculum the medical team lead by Erin Plummer that has just been launched.
