𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗻𝗴𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗙𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝗚𝗲𝗼𝗿𝗴𝗶𝗮 𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝗙𝗬 𝟮𝟯 𝗔𝗻𝗻𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗥𝗲𝗽𝗼𝗿𝘁 🟩🟧🟩🟧 SFG is a collaborative statewide initiative dedicated to integrating research-based Protective Factors into services for families and children. During Fiscal Year 2023, SFG made significant progress by refreshing its strategic plan and evaluation efforts. The expansion efforts have resulted in 17 new partnerships, allowing SFG to extend the reach of the five Protective Factors through various family support programs. Through these initiatives and participation in key events, SFG continues to empower families and strengthen communities, creating a more resilient Georgia for future generations. The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), through the Administration for Community Living (ACL), has unveiled a robust series of initiatives aimed at addressing the critical and longstanding shortage of direct care professionals. This workforce, the backbone of support for older adults and people with disabilities, is crucial for enabling millions to live with dignity in their communities rather than in institutional settings. The new measures, part of the Biden-Harris Administration’s broader efforts to bolster the nation’s caregiving infrastructure, promise a significant step forward in ensuring accessible, quality care for some of society’s most vulnerable. In 2021, after the sudden closure of the SEPTA Somerset El station, residents, community groups, SEPTA employees, elected officials, and neighborhood nonprofits came together to march for Safety and Solutions. This moment for collective action and resistance is an anchor event that has led to our current moment. Historically, outside stakeholders have designed and implemented plans for Kensington and have left residents out of the planning, implementation, and evaluation process. Reversing decades of isolation and disinvestment requires coordination and mobilization of significant resources that are invested to improve the lives of current residents. Co-Creating Kensington, a community-driven planning and implementation process, advocates for just that. Over 650 residents have been coming together to create a shared vision for Kensington so that we can begin to address the historical inequities and intersecting crises together. For the first time, we have an opportunity for community-driven change if everyone can commit to and continue adopting actionable steps to connect a theory of change that centers trauma-informed, participatory, and comprehensive strategies with proposed or implemented intervention strategies for Kensington from government and private sector stakeholders. Dr. Starsky D. Wilson recently joined Start Early President Dr. Diana Rauner and a panel committed to discussing what tools and tactics are needed to elevate and center family voice in community systems building. Panelists agreed that families must be involved in the development of programs, policies, and systems as equal partners when they work alongside educators and public sector leaders. "What are some of the policies and practices that you have seen or that you desire to be implemented to address inequalities?" Dr. Wilson asked the panel. Children's Defense Fund-Ohio Parent Advisory Board member Ugochi Akoi said collaboration is key. "Having created this space where families are able to address the challenges that they have faced and then shaping policies and practices to address those so as to reduce future discrimination from happening," Akoi said. August is Civic Health Month, a nationwide celebration held to showcase the strengthening relationship between health care, healthy communities, and civic participation. Civic health refers to how communities come together to identify and address public issues, as defined by the National Conference on Citizenship. It is measured through social connections, community involvement, and political participation. The Wisconsin 2024 Civic Health Challenge encourages residents to actively contribute to their community's civic health through daily challenges centered on four themes: social connection, community connection, voting, and political engagement. https://lnkd.in/gSJ4KSrW
