Slowing down tourism and re-respecting own residents Finally some cities are waking up and start curbing over-tourism and trying to protect a bit their own residents. I saw various examples, such as Lisbon stopping the golden visa program for foreigners (non-EU citizens), or last year Amsterdam created stay-away ad campaigns targeting young British men. Local governments in places such as Spain’s Canary Islands, Lisbon, and Berlin have announced restrictions on short-term rentals in the past decade. And now Barcelona is up to ban apartment rentals to tourists in a bid to cut housing costs. Being one of Europe’s top destinations, Barcelona’s popularity has made housing increasingly unaffordable for residents. This is the case for many cities in Europe and worldwide. 🙋🏻♀️__ To all rebels against the hurry culture: I encourage people to embrace the power of slow in a rushing world crushing your life ⛱__How? 🇳🇱Relocation to the Netherlands or How to Prepare for the Move: Introduction In April 2022, we moved to Poland. Initially, we planned to go to Wrocław, but eventually settled on Warsaw because it was easier to find housing due to a larger number of listings. We rented our first accommodation for a week through AirBnB, which was almost enough time to find an apartment for a year. With the help of a real estate agent, we found an apartment in just 4 days, and set the move-in date for May 1st for convenience in counting. A small problem in the form of lack of accommodation for two nights was solved thanks to friends. In Warsaw at that time only options for fabulous money were available. Having Polish roots, we could quickly obtain a residence permit. We tackled this issue even before arriving in Poland and, thanks to the help of intermediaries, we successfully received our coveted IDs in November 2022, in the seventh month of living in the country. You can read the article in Russian on my Telegram channel — https://lnkd.in/evi5FnyT We planned to settle down in Poland, but these plans were shattered by an offer to relocate to the Netherlands. There were many doubts, and we spent two weeks gathering information about the Netherlands: comparing Poland and the Netherlands, calculating the budget for moving and living in a new place. After weighing all the pros and cons, in November 2022, I accepted the offer and this marked the start of the "Relocation" project. I started gathering information about the Netherlands, making records and notes, and planning the move immediately after receiving the relocation offer. Over time, I have accumulated a lot of material, and for almost a year now, I’ve been trying to sit down and write a detailed article about it, but something constantly interferes — either lack of time or lack of inspiration. This week I realized the obvious: if it's impossible to eat an "elephant" in one go, it needs to be divided into parts. That's exactly what I will do. I will start a series of posts about preparation, planning, moving, and adaptation, publishing them as I can. And if there is interest, I will compile a full article from these posts in the end. #relocation #life #work #netherlands #poland #airbnb
