Here is a quick synopsis of what this project is facing: Pros +This particular site is a premier setup for this type of project +1200 MWe for 12 hours is equivalent to a large thermal generating station +Late afternoon demand peaks in the summer could be managed +Storage for VRE (solar/wind) intermittency +Green and clean energy Cons -There are not many places to put Pumped Storage -Energy has to be dispatched and controlled -High startup cost -Uphill battle to justify storage benefits using metrics that don't prefer storage assets -Siting and footprint is medium-high

Our research reveals interesting insights into the transition from diesel to #batteryelectric and #hydrogen truck fleets for Australia, highlighting the complexities of achieving #sustainablefreight transport 🚛🔋.  We developed five scenarios, each with varying #renewableenergy mixes and adoption rates, reflecting potential policy impacts. Hydrogen production via electrolysis currently demands significant energy and can emit more GHG than battery electric trucks. When fuel/electricity production is carbon-neutral scenarios, #emissions from vehicle maintenance and disposal remain important. For instance, electric trucks might still generate emissions due to the frequent need for battery replacements over their lifespan. With support from the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), CalWave Inc. successfully deployed its first ocean-going unit, the x1, offshore San Diego at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography in September 2021. After a successful 10-month deployment that exceeded expectations, the unit was recovered in July 2022. Leveraging the lessons learned from this pilot system, CalWave Inc. is scaling the technology to 100 kW and will deploy it at the new pre-permitted, grid-connected PacWave test site offshore central Oregon in 2024. In the long term, CalWave envisions co-locating its systems with offshore wind farms to significantly increase power production and smooth out power profiles, all without significantly increasing infrastructure costs. California Resources Corporation (CRC) and its carbon management arm, Carbon TerraVault (CTV), have launched California’s first carbon capture and storage (CCS) project at CRC’s Elk Hills cryogenic gas plant in Kern County. This milestone aims to permanently store CO2, aligning with the state’s decarbonization goals. In partnership with Brookfield Corporation, CRC's initiative reflects strong collaboration between public policy and private investment.
