*CALL FOR APPLICATIONS* Rights-Based Climate Adaptation in Armenia and Georgia https://lnkd.in/dgWcdRYy This call invites public sector professionals working in areas relating to climate change adaptation, disaster risk reduction, sustainable development, human rights and gender equality to apply to join an innovative Lund University certificate course examining rights-based climate adaptation in Armenia and Georgia. The course is supported by the Swedish Institute and implemented together with the Raoul Wallenberg Institute of Human Rights and Humanitarian Law.   The Paris Agreement declares that: "Parties should, when taking action to address climate change, respect, promote and consider their respective obligations on human rights, the right to health, the rights of indigenous peoples, local communities, migrants, children, persons with disabilities and people in vulnerable situations and the right to development, as well as gender equality, empowerment of women and intergenerational equity." Rights-Based Climate Adaptation in Armenia and Georgia is designed to support participants in operationalizing this ambition. Integrating human rights and gender equality into action to address climate change starts with a foundational understanding across the public sector of how these fields of knowledge and practice intersect. The certificate course brings together public sector professionals working across multiple sectors and in neighbouring countries to exchange knowledge. Consisting of three workshops, self-directed study, and four online learning exchanges, the course uses the Framework for Integrating Rights and Equality (FIRE) (https://rwi.lu.se/fire/) to structure the exchange of knowledge and insights between course participants.

The gender climate nexus in Pakistan is a critical issue that has far-reaching implications for the country. Women in Pakistan are disproportionately affected by the impacts of climate change. Additionally, women are also more vulnerable to the health impacts of climate change. Furthermore, women in Pakistan are often excluded from decision-making processes related to climate change adaptation and mitigation, limiting their ability to advocate for their needs and rights. Addressing the gender climate nexus in Pakistan is essential for promoting gender equality, reducing vulnerability to climate change, and building a more sustainable and resilient society. https://lnkd.in/dY4QrCHc

This International Women's Day we should consider that women bear a disproportionate share of the burden of climate change. However, women remain shamefully underrepresented in positions of leadership that determine our collective future. If all women smallholders received equal access to resources, their farm yields would rise by 20 to 30 percent, 100 to 150 million people would no longer go hungry, and carbon dioxide emissions could be reduced by 2.1 gigatons (UN). For every additional year of schooling a girl receives on average, her country’s resilience to climate disasters can be expected to improve by 3.2 points on the ND-GAIN Index (Brookings). Why is resilient energy access important for #women in the #climate crises? Together with Martha M. Hoffmann, Camille Belmin and Zakia Soomauroo we find answers in our recently published book chapter. We find that #energyaccess is key to enabling adaptation and reducing vulnerability. Among many examples, we find that energy access reduces household burden and increases health and financial independence of women, effectively building climate resilience for women. Electrification projects, however, can be threatened by climate change, thus also threatening the mitigation of gendered inequality. Therefore, we present a range of measures that can increase resiliency of energy systems to climate change, namely, technical measures as well as integrating sociopolitical perspectives in energy planning. https://lnkd.in/eq354wJB

High Level Gender Reponsive Just Transitions and Climate Action Session 50% of world’s population are women with men dominating 80% of green and blue jobs, most affected by climate change, unpaid care and household work, persistent wage gap, unequal opportunities thus the need to make climate finance more gender responsive, increase direct access to finance for women led enterprises, gender based budgeting, set up spaces for care homes, respite homes, adult learning and innovative finance mechanisms aligning gender. Since 2016, TRANSFORM ENERGY Platform (TEP) has improved clean energy access to 10 million women in Sub Sahara and South Asia, 23,000 women green jobs, 650 women job placements/training in clean energy business. Britain committed £40m for TEP, UK hosts International Conference on Building Women’s Economic Empowerment into green growth. There can’t be lasting peace without social justice. According to International Labour Organization, by 2030 2% of working time will be lost due to heat stress equivalent to 80m full time jobs. Effective climate policy could create 12m jobs in Nigeria and 15m in Latin America by 2035. Female employment in renewable energy sector is 35% as compared to 22% in oil and gas. UNDP has supported women solar technician training in Yemen, 21 African economies in establishing solar off grids and mini grids which would enable 216m people have access to affordable electricity and the gender equality seal for institutions empowering women. #cop28 #cop28uae #pathwaytocop28

WOMEN AND CLIMATE RESILIENCE FOR EQUITABLE SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT: EMPOWERING WOMEN MEANS BETTER CLIMATE SOLUTIONS!!! Women-led initiatives at the grassroots level are crucial in building community resilience against climate change and conflict impacts. In region facing environmental degradation or displacement due to climate-related factors, women mobilize communities to develop adaptive strategies. By involving women in community planning and disaster response efforts, we can build stronger, more resilient communities that are better equipped to face the challenges of climate change. Climate change affects everyone, but it doesn't impact everyone equally!!! Empowering women in agriculture can also have a positive impact on climate adaptation. By providing appropriate technology and resources, we can promote more sustainable farming and conservation practices. And by reducing poverty, we can help individuals better adapt to the effects of climate change. A climate-smart and gender-responsive education system advances equitable, quality education and plays a crucial role in building climate resilience for vulnerable populations. Promoting girl's education is a sustainable pathway to enhance global resilience to climate change. Offering a comprehensive analysis, the report sheds light on both the gender commitments pertinent to African contexts and the facilitating conditions crucial for their successful implementation.
