It’s so annoying sometimes, but it’s the truth.😏 🤦🏻♀️Mistake 1: Underestimating the Power of Networking- I thought my skills would open doors. Are you relying solely on your resume too?😬 Orrr...are you like me thinking “Oh I am from Delta {insert your own airline here}, why WOULDN’T they want me? I come from the BEST!” Welp. I was so very wrong on that. I even had some tell me “Maybe you shouldn’t say where you come from." I’m sorry wut?😲 🔑Networking is not only key in this niche industry...but vital. Pardon the pun - networking is your d*mn oxygen mask! {sorry I had to😂} Have you connected with people that can help open doors for you?🚪 📘Mistake 2: Not Tailoring My Skills to Private Aviation Standards- I wrongfully assumed my commercial experience was enough. International Purser qualified (most junior at that!) & had been to countless countries while serving business class passengers from every culture imaginable...I have what it takes right? oof. What a ego buster this one was.😂 🤌🏼How are you adapting your skills to meet the bespoke needs of business aviation guests? Business aviation demands a unique set of service skills. 🍇 Menu curation, catering procurement, plating design, silent butler service, silver service...how refined are yours? Comment below, I would love to hear about it!😃 🗺️Mistake 3: Overlooking the Importance of "The Fit"- I didn’t research the distinct culture of each company/operator. Nor did I understand that I can have all the best skills, yet if the culture doesn't match, my skills are irrelevant. 👔Do you understand the ethos of the operators you're applying to? Each company & private jet owner has its unique DNA. Do you understand the importance of it? Or are you forcing where you don't belong? 🎼For example: I would not fit with a rapper-at all. If you know me at all, its laughable to think about😂 They may ask for the years experience that I have & I tick every box for the skills they want, but "the fit" is not there. ⭐Let this hit home for you in bringing peace in creating your private aviation story. If you belong in the private aviation world... 👉🏼👉🏼👉🏼there is a specific fit for YOU that no one else can fill.👈🏼👈🏼👈🏼 😩For years before I was hired in commercial, I was so devastated when I got the "no." Breaking into Part 91/135 as a Cabin or Flight Attendant... An Aviation Recruiter's Perspective... 👩💻 1. Make Your Resume Shine   ✈ No aviation experience? No worries! Highlight your prior customer service or hospitality skills.   ✈ Show off any certifications like First Aid or CPR; operators love seeing those and many will require them.   ✈ Got luxury service experience? Perfect! Part 135 clients love the VIP treatment. ✈ Get feedback on your resume from someone in the field. 2. Get Trained Like a Pro  ✈ Consider corporate flight attendant training to learn the ropes of private/charter flying.   ✈ Impress in interviews by knowing the difference between Part 91 and 135 operations. (Pro tip: Ask a pilot or mentor for lingo tips!) 3. Network Like a Boss   ✈ Attend aviation job fairs or conferences—face-to-face connections make a lasting impression!   ✈ LinkedIn is your friend. Connect with operators, recruiters, and fellow cabin attendants.   ✈ Bonus points for volunteering at aviation events in your area! 4. Be Proactive—Don’t Wait for Job Postings ✈ Find Part 91 or 135 operators and reach out (FAA website has a list of all 135 operators in the U.S.).   ✈ Follow up with a polite email or call. Persistence pays off! ✈ Go the old-fashioned route and drop off your resume to the main office so they can see your sparkling personality in person! 5. Freelance Your Way In ✈ Freelance or on-call gigs are a great way to gain experience and build connections.   ✈ Staffing agencies often hire temporary cabin attendants—an awesome way to get your foot in the door! 6. Ace That Interview ✈ Do your homework: Know the operator’s fleet and clientele to show how you’re the perfect fit.   ✈ Flexibility is key! Be ready for irregular schedules and high expectations—it’s all part of the fun. NOTE: You might need to consider relocation if you live in an area without many aviation companies/opportunities. Some CA/FA positions are home-based, however many require the CA/FA to live nearby in the event of pop-up trips.

Never wait too much for a specific job opportunity... 🛑 In my recent Telephonic Consultation on "Career as a Cabin Crew", with a candidate, I noticed below points: 1️⃣ Candidate was not eligible as per the age criteria for Domestic Airlines and hence was trying for International Airlines. 2️⃣ Unfortunately candidate wasn't working because job was lost during Covid and after that did not get a desired one. 3️⃣ Candidate was waiting for opportunity in International Airlines for Cabin Crew but as these hirings are done only by invitation from airlines, waiting period was longer. 💁♀️ Learnings and Suggestions: ✔ It is good to wait for a desired job opportunity but it is always advisable to take up some other suitable job in similar industry (customer care / hospitality) and start working. ✔ While working, keep doing preparation for Cabin Crew / the desired job profile and be open for opportunities. ✔ Job market is not stable so if you get a good opportunity, accept it and start working. Every experience teaches us something and builds our personal brand. ✔ Always follow Official Pages of Airlines / Companies on social media and their respective websites to receive timely updates on ongoing hiring. ✔ Do not fall for any false advertising where they ask you to pay some amount to secure a job / appear for the interview. Last week I returned home from a 5 month trip travelling Southeast Asia and since returning I have thought how the gap in my career might make me look less worthy for future clients and job applications. I’ve spent time reflecting on the past 5 months and all the experience I have gained in this time. I want to share the life skills I have learned which will also contribute to my professional skillset. 👉🏻 Putting myself in tough situations so far away from home has built resilience 👉🏻 Solo travelling has taught me to be independent 👉🏻 Dealing with unexpected issues has taught me to problem solve 👉🏻 Speaking to and bonding with people from all over the world has allowed me to communicate with a diversity of people 👉🏻 Making friends whilst being a solo traveller has taught me to be confident 👉🏻 Deciding on where I want to go or what I would like to do each day has improved my decision making skills 👉🏻 I had to be extremely organised when unpacking and re-packing my backpack every couple of days and making sure I have all the paperwork I need for travel days 👉🏻 Whilst travelling, naturally I came across a few hiccups but these strengthened my problem solving ability 👉🏻 Learning about different cultures and the history of different countries I have found that unless you travel during your gap year, many people feel like taking the time out of their career to do so will hold them back. By making this post, hopefully I can share with you the crucial life skills travelling provides you with and make employers aware of the benefits of hiring someone with travelling on their CV 🌎✨👏🏼

DAY 45 OF MY JOB HUNT IN ABU DHABI ☀️Today is Sunday, mostly recruiters will not respond today, they only respond during the weekdays. I decided to get some fresh air and forget about applying somehow. Today's choice is to move around with my scooter 🚴, just round and relaxed. We need to recharge so that we are ready again for the coming days to apply. 🍜To sustain my needs while applying, I am tutoring kids online from the Philippines (mostly my handled students before when I was in the Philippines). We need to get some extra income not just staying at home and thinking about the job. 🤦♂️I applied for a different line of job that I know and am not so knowledgeable about but I am willing and eager to learn. I applied in school, hotels, construction, malls, travels, and as a personal assistant and held some interviews but at the end of the day I kept waiting and got rejected. I always keep in mind that rejection is not about you being insubstantial about the work but it is a redirection for something better. 🙌Finally, these 45 days of job hunting taught me a lot of lessons and made me more competitive (good way). BEING RUDE TO AGENTS Although some people are under the impression that being a crew recruitment agent is easy, I can assure you it most certainly is not. All yacht crew agencies will have their own procedures in place, to which they feel will help candidates find work easier. We are here to help you not work against you, so it is often wise to take our advice , although it is simply just that, advice. The reason you contact us to begin with is to help you find work, and that is exactly what we will do. Unfortunately on the odd minority occasion, we will come across a candidate who refuses to follow our advice, and in the process proceeds to become rude to us. This is normally due to frustration of being out of work which of course we understand, but sometimes can be triggered by the smallest thing, such as being asked to alter, add, or remove information to their cv (as an example). As an agency we are offering our services, nothing more nothing less. So by contacting us means that you want us to help you find work, or help you with any other subject to do with yachting. So then after being given advice by us, it is normally wise to take it onboard and move forward. By ignoring our advice or requests, tells us that we are wasting our time and more importantly your time. Being rude to an agent or comparing us verbally to another agency will not do you any favours, and will only make us more aware that this behaviour could also happen onboard should we ever find you a placement. Long story short, agencies are here to help crew find work and not to work against you. However we are human like everyone else, and work normal jobs like everyone else. So we are not here to take abuse or any form of rudeness from any candidates that apply with us. Frustration within yachting will always be there due to the high volume of candidates compared to the amount of vessels, and that's fine we fully get that being ex crew ourselves. But we kindly ask that you please be mindful when it comes the language used when speaking with us, and obviously it goes without saying that we shall do the same.
