The European Commission has launched a four-week consultation on a draft act that defines a methodology for assessing emission reductions from low-carbon hydrogen and fuels. This methodology is critical for the EU's revised hydrogen and gas market legislation, ensuring a consistent approach to calculating life cycle emissions for low-carbon fuels, aligned with renewable hydrogen and other advanced fuels. With the EU's hydrogen and gas decarbonization rules now in effect, the need to define low-carbon hydrogen has become urgent. Member states are required to incorporate these rules into national laws by August 2026, marking a significant step toward the EU’s emission reduction goals. At RENMAD H2 USA, our Executive Director, Roxana Bekemohammadi, participated in a thought-provoking panel focused on unpacking the complexities of the 45V tax credits for clean hydrogen production. Moderated by Seth W. Snyder from Clean Energy Venture Group, this session brought together experts including Patricia Kelley from 174 Power Global (USHA Member), Connor Dolan from Fuel Cell & Hydrogen Energy Association (FCHEA) to discuss the future of hydrogen incentives in the U.S. The panel explored key topics such as how greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions are measured under the legislation, the types of energy sources that qualify for hydrogen production, and the impact of regionality and time-matching in project implementation.
