In 2024 we launched our Skills for Life program of free courses for residents. The courses are a chance for residents to meet new people, build confidence, and gain skills they can put on their CV. One of the courses on offer was British Sign Language Level One. Our learners tell us why they signed up for the BSL Level One course and the positive impact it has had on their lives 👇

BSL student, are the challenges of becoming a professional Communication Support Worker (CSW) pushing you forward, or are they becoming excuses that hold you back? 🤔 What if the obstacles you're encountering could actually be your catalyst? ➞ Your lack of fluency and confidence in BSL is your catalyst, not your excuse. Each practice session brings you closer to mastering the language and boosts your confidence. Use this opportunity to immerse yourself in the Deaf community and keep pushing your limits. Your dedication to improving your skills is what will make you an excellent CSW. ➞ Your fear of not being good enough is your catalyst, not your excuse. This fear can motivate you to push harder, seek feedback, and grow beyond your comfort zone, ultimately becoming the skilled professional you aspire to be. ➞ The lack of professional networks in your area is your catalyst, not your excuse. This pushes you to connect online, join forums, attend virtual events, and create your own network of like-minded individuals who can support and inspire you. ➞ Your full-time job is your catalyst, not your excuse. Balancing work and study shows your commitment. Every spare moment you dedicate to learning is an investment in your future career. ➞ The slow progress in your learning journey is your catalyst, not your excuse. Progress, no matter how slow, is still progress. Each small step you take is building the foundation for your future as a CSW. ➞ Your age is your catalyst, not your excuse. Whether you’re just starting out or looking for a career change, your age gives you unique life experiences and perspectives that will enrich your work as a CSW. Use these challenges to propel yourself forward! You have the power to transform these challenges into stepping stones towards your goal of becoming a professional CSW. Your actions, day by day, shape your reality. If you're ready to take the next step in your journey, check out our CPD-accredited course "Becoming a Professional CSW": https://lnkd.in/eJVsdVGt

As we turn our attention to planning for delivery next year (or for those of us for whom the process never stops!), you may like to think about joining my webinar on 17th July: Developing a dynamic curriculum plan for delivering Functional Skills English. Think about topics and activities that will engage your students - they may not even notice they are learning English, but of course if they do this should be a positive association! https://lnkd.in/eHMgrHFX #english #functionalskills #engaginglearners

Excuse me, do you speak English❓🤔 When you ask our apprentices this, the answer is simple: Yes, of course❗😉 Because as part of the AHT Youngsters Academy, the first 17 apprentices have now completed their English matriculation exams. Why apprentices already need the English language, how the preparations for the exams went, and a few other insights can be found in our new video. By the way, we are applying for the #Staatspreis #fitforfuture with this video – so keep your fingers crossed 👍 #naturallyatyourside

Really looking forward to delivering this important webinar for AELP on May 15th. The English Functional Skills requirements are challenging in their assessment expectations but are an essential alternative to GCSEs and need to be positively embraced. The interactive webinar aims to address some of the key challenges and explore different approaches needed to allow learners to be successful in the attainment of the necessary knowledge, skills and confidence needed to achieve a pass. Some feedback from previous sessions: "Great session thank you" "Excellent session thank you Christine" "Many thanks, Christine. Very useful." "Thank you, this was very helpful" If this is an area for development then I recommend that you join me on this session. There are still a few places left, here is the link to the booking page: https://lnkd.in/g8ecS25z #english #functionalskills #functionalenglish #lifelonglearning #skillsforlife
