In an update to last week's post, this latest poll from Redfield & Wilton Strategies shows some disappointing slippage on the importance of housing to some voters - at least relative to other issues. It does remain a key election issue for people, although not reflected evenly across the political spectrum. Current rankings by likely voting intention are as follows: LAB: 3rd most important issue - this has been consistent for a long time LDM: 3rd most important - similarly, broadly consistent CON: 7th most important - a significant slip from 4th last week (falling behind defence, policing and the environment) RFM: 8th most important - also a slip from last week's 5th place (now behind policing, defence, pensions and benefits) Further change is inevitable before a General Election, but these changes are instructive to monitor. EXactly how extending the mandatory retirement age will “upend Union collective bargaining agreements, cause operational disruptions and increase ticket prices”? It’s total nonsense! Aren’t CBA issues what ALPA union pilots pay the most in dues of any labor group in the world to deal with? Operational disruptions? There are over 20,000 pilots that work for airlines with one or 2 types of aircraft that are narrowbodies. If some senior pilots can’t fly certain international routes there won’t be any retraining or disruptions whatsoever. For airlines with intl widebody captains so few will need retraining and more junior pilots already qualified on the aircraft will move up. Isn’t that what they want? Increase ticket prices? Complicate air travel? How? Do you people just make stuff up? Do you think people are that stupid, Particularly members of Congress? Why dont you believe every healthy, able and highly experienced, proficient and trained Union pilot deserves an opportunity to fly to 67 if he ar she so chooses? Folks SEE THROUGH THE PACK OF LIES and tell your senators today that you SUPPORT RAISING THE ARBITRARY RETIREMENT AGR to 67.

Recently I’ve seen people compare Joe Biden to the likes of Reagan. I laugh because I’d agree that’s not too far off the mark. Reagan was one of the worst presidents in this corporations existence. He literally gave a handful of the wealthiest people the power to choose to never heal you but turn you into a customer paying your last dime to stay able bodied enough to slave for their buddies corporations until you die. Knowing this they’ve never allowed wages to keep pace with the cost of living, and have repeatedly pushed back retirement age to prevent you from being able to retire and collect retirement, allowing them to usurp your 30-35 plus years worth of “401K” contributions. Remember when you were fully vested after 20? It’s even more sickening as AI and tech has advanced these corporations use it to replace human labor drastically reducing costs. So what do they do for the remaining labor, cut wages so as to pass on the increase in insurance premiums brought on by reduction in numbers of insured. Focus on the distractions though. They’re orchestrated daily everywhere.

ALPA's stance against raising the pilot retirement age is short-sighted. It ignores the pressing need to address the pilot shortage and improve pilot training and safety standards. By focusing only on age, ALPA is overlooking the fact that modern healthcare allows pilots to safely work longer. Decision-making should be data-driven, focusing on actual performance rather than age. Additionally, ALPA should be prepared to negotiate collective agreements as situations evolve; it's a fundamental part of their role. It's crucial to adopt a more pragmatic approach that balances extending pilot careers with the overall safety and efficiency of the aviation industry.
