The United Community Bank Foundation is committing $350,000 to support immediate disaster relief efforts in Western North Carolina after the devastation of Hurricane Helene. Unfortunately, disaster recovery scams often arise in the wake of natural disasters. To keep your money and personal information safe, remember the following tips: ⛔️ If someone wants money to help you qualify for FEMA funds, it’s most likely a scam. ⛔️ Beware if contractors demand cash payment upfront or refuse to give you a contract in writing or copies of their license or insurance. ⛔️ Scammers may pretend to be safety inspectors, government officials, or utility workers: always ask for identification to verify who you’re dealing with. ⛔️ Never share your personal information, like SSN or account numbers.
