💥 Our next Grapevine Speaker's Series is happening on April 4! 💥 It’s estimated that 6 million people experience homelessness in the U.S. each year and one out of every two Americans is one paycheck away from not being able to afford rent. We also know that 82% of Americans believe the U.S. should be doing more to prevent homelessness. So what’s preventing us from addressing this issue in a real and effective way? 💬 This conversation will outline how and why community-based work and advocacy is at the heart of addressing the homelessness crisis. The scope of the problem can feel daunting, but community-centric models like Giving Circles bring reason for hope by prioritizing our shared humanity and desire for collective change. 🎟 Grab your spot to the conversation on April 4 here: https://lnkd.in/eibBwA5u 🎤 Meet the Panelists: 🌟 Kevin F. Adler Award-winning author of When We Walk By: Forgotten Humanity, Broken Systems, and the Role We Can Each Play in Ending Homelessness in America, and founder of Miracle Messages, a nonprofit addressing relational homelessness. 🌟 Kelly Cobb Vice President of Giving at Bombas, an apparel brand that donates a clothing item to those experiencing homelessness for every purchase made.
Welcome! You are invited to join a meeting: PANEL EVENT: Addressing Homelessness through Community-Driven Solutions. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email about joining the meeting.

🌟 An exciting update from Nimbus Hosting - We're delighted to announce our continued partnership with Herts Young Homeless, reinforcing our commitment to this vital cause. At Nimbus Hosting, we take great pride in our ongoing collaboration with Herts Young Homeless, a dedicated charity tirelessly addressing the critical issue of youth homelessness. Our mission is to contribute positively to our community by supporting initiatives that truly make a difference. 📣Join the Movement: Sign the Petition Herts Young Homeless is currently running a crucial campaign to acquire 100,000 signatures on their petition: https://lnkd.in/exFKGpjc The campaign sheds light on a pressing issue—129,000 young people sought help for homelessness in 2021-22, and yet, there is no national plan in place. The scale of youth homelessness may go unnoticed, but the solutions are crystal clear. Young people's experiences of homelessness differ, necessitating unique strategies. At Nimbus Hosting, we advocate for a cross-departmental strategy focusing on prevention, housing, and finances to eradicate youth homelessness. 🤝 We're in this Together: A Coalition of Change As part of a coalition of over 100 youth organisations, Herts Young Homeless are collectively urging the government to commit to a comprehensive strategy to end youth homelessness. Their call for action centres around a #PlanForThe129k, emphasising the need to address the root causes of youth homelessness and provide effective solutions. 💚 How You Can Help Join us in supporting Herts Young Homeless by signing the petition and spreading awareness about the urgent need for change. Together, we can make a difference in the lives of these young individuals. Thank you in advance for helping us to support this worthy cause 🙏 #Nimbus #PlanForThe129k #EndYouthHomelessness

Tackling homelessness can't be done in isolation. This episode is a testament to that, as we delve into the grassroots efforts of Topeka JUMP (Justice Unity & Ministry Project), supported by 29 faith communities, and their bottom-up approach to societal concerns. We visit with JUMP organizers Sarah Balzer, Jason Maymon, and JUMP Executive Committee member, Nate Marsh, to examine how tensions and challenges are not hurdles but catalysts that, when approached with compassion and understanding, fuel the advocacy for solutions that echo the core tenets of faith and activism. We round off our discussion by debunking misconceptions about TRM's plans for a low barrier shelter, emphasizing the need for informed collaboration across various sectors to truly address the needs of the homeless. The potential outcomes of the city council meeting, the role of organizations like JUMP, and the significance of a long-term commitment to change are all topics we dissect. Join us as we explore the importance of understanding homelessness beyond stereotypes, and as we extend an open invitation to those keen on making a tangible difference in our community. https://bit.ly/OCOM_Ep223

Yesterday the 100 in 100 initiative was launched in Grand Rapids. “An effort to house 100 individuals who are experiencing homelessness in 100 days with an intentional focus on chronic homelessness.” So encouraging to see this private/public partnership. On this Homeless Person's Memorial Day, let's take a moment to reflect on some eye-opening facts about homelessness both locally and nationally. Did you know? 1. As many as 1 out of every 30 children in the US experiences homelessness. 2. The fastest-growing population of homeless individuals is older adults. Our elders, who have given so much to society, often find themselves without shelter or support. 3. In 2023 to-date, our local 211 has handled a staggering 9,675 calls related to housing and employment assistance. This is a clear indication of the pressing need for affordable housing and living wage employment in our community. At United Way, we believe everyone deserves a safe place to call their own and should be treated with dignity and respect. Let's remember that we can all make a difference by looking out for each other, volunteering, and advocating for policies that address homelessness.

Everyone deserves a place to call home. It’s heartbreaking to think that so many people in our communities are struggling without shelter, safety, and a sense of stability. That’s why it’s so important to support efforts like the one in Lenexa to create a Homeless Services Center. This center would provide critical resources to those who need it most—offering not just a roof, but hope for a better tomorrow. Please take a moment to support the petition to persuade the Lenexa City Council to approve the Special Use Permit for this center. It could be a game-changer for so many lives. It takes just a few seconds to sign, and it could make all the difference. Imagine if it were you or someone you love. Everyone deserves dignity, and everyone deserves a place to call home. Let’s make sure no one is left behind. Your support matters! #EveryoneDeservesAHome #SupportTheHomeless #CommunityMatters #TakeAction #trusttheprocess https://lnkd.in/guw-_Ksg

Creating communities that embrace and support the homeless is a cause close to my heart. 🏠💛 Here's my take on how we can all contribute: 1️⃣ Start with Empathy: Understanding the unique challenges faced by the homeless is key. Let's listen to their stories and learn from their experiences. 2️⃣ Collaborate: By partnering with local charities, businesses, and government agencies, we can pool resources and expertise to make a real difference. 3️⃣ Safe Spaces: Establishing safe, clean, and accessible shelters is crucial. These should be more than just a place to sleep; they should offer a sense of dignity and hope. 4️⃣ Skills and Employment: Providing training and job opportunities can empower the homeless to rebuild their lives and integrate into society. 5️⃣ Health and Wellbeing: Access to healthcare, including mental health support, is vital. Wellness programs can help address the root causes of homelessness. 6️⃣ Long-Term Housing: We need to advocate for affordable housing solutions that offer stability and a chance to transition out of homelessness permanently. 7️⃣ Community Involvement: Encouraging volunteerism and creating platforms for dialogue can foster a community spirit that includes the homeless, rather than excludes them. Let's unite to build a society where everyone has a place to call home. What are your thoughts? Share below! 👇 #CommunitySupport #Homelessness #InclusiveSociety #vetrorecruitment #vetro

I spent my Christmas Eve feeding, clothing and talking to the homeless people in my community and this is what I learnt. 1. Resilience - Witnessing the resilience of the homeless community in London taught me that strength can be found even in challenging circumstances. 2. Human Connection - Spending time talking with homeless individuals highlighted the importance of human connection and the shared experiences that connect us all. 3. Gratitude - Engaging with the homeless population instilled a deep sense of gratitude for the privileges and comforts often taken for granted in everyday life. 4. Diverse Stories - Each person I met had a unique story, dispelling stereotypes and emphasizing the diversity within the homeless community, fostering empathy and understanding. 5. Community Support - Recognizing the impact of community support services underscored the significance of collaborative efforts in addressing homelessness and providing essential resources.
