The 2024-25 season is off to the races! 🏁 In case you missed it on NBC Chicago and Peacock yesterday, singers from Voice of Chicago braved the wind and the rain yesterday to perform an original arrangement of “America the Beautiful” by our conductor-in-residence W. Mitchell Owens. Our singers learned this arrangement in less than a week! Thank you to NASCAR Chicago for having us, and their amazing staff for making the day one to remember for our singers!

How do you create the winningest team in NASCAR history? 👇 The President of Joe Gibbs Racing, Dave Alpern, talked with me about focusing on their True North: Go Faster. 🏁 Every organization should know their purpose and daily objective in one sentence. For Joe Gibbs Racing, the purpose is to Go Faster. Every decision they made for thirty years filtered through that one question: “Will this make us go faster?” Their philosophy is simple: If we lead the most laps and win the most races, everything else (sponsorships, marketing, recruiting talent) will take care of itself. For every purchasing decision they asked “Will this make us go faster?” For 15 years, Joe Gibbs Racing had no sign out front in their business park. 🏢 Spending 💲 on the expensive signage did not directly help their true north of going faster. It became a symbol and badge of honor for team members in the organization to keep all focus on making every decision and resource towards their true north. 🏁 The Unseen Journey to Triumph During Thanksgiving break, I caught up with Keanu Reeve’s Docuseries on the fairytale story of Brawn GP in the 2009 Formula 1 season. The Cinderella story of Brawn F1 goes from: 🛑 nearly being dissolved completely with 0-day notice, 🏎 hitting the track to start the season as the fastest car on the grid, 🏆 to ultimately winning the Drivers and Constructor Championship in its debut and only season. While Brawn GP’s story seems to be an incredible turnaround of a team’s fate, the focus on 2009 has already begun the year prior with their “double diffuser” and other aerodynamic design approaches. Without the resilient leadership of Ross Brawn and Nick Fry to pull through the transition to 2009, we may have never witnessed the incredible story Brawn GP penned. Like Brawn GP’s story, in our lives or careers, tons of behind-the-scenes works might never share the spotlight if they weren’t for the right circumstances. Yet, those unnoticed endeavors are what lead to the ultimate reward. Chance favors the prepared mind - Louis Pasteur's. 👉 Ross Brawn certainly was fully prepared to lead the team in 2009. Is there really any surprise here that NASCAR destroys F1 in domestic U.S viewership? For F1 to ever catch up to NASCAR viewership in its home territory a few things have to happen as per below: - The racing must be competitive with a degree of unpredictability - The series must allow more access for fans that attend races - The removal of its elitist appeal and ultra-high pricing. - An evolution of the 'Drive to Survive' effect must take place to build up casual fans and increase their engagement - A U.S hero to take to the grid in a front running car, someone the country can get behind. These are only a few criteria I feel will drive engagement with the sports mad American audience, even then it is not a given.
