A recent three-year grant to the Southwestern Medical Foundation is supporting UT Southwestern Medical Center's student-run free clinics. These clinics provide health care services to vulnerable populations and offer medical school students the opportunity to develop empathy and cultural competency by working with diverse patient populations. You know what would be a fun and informative assignment? Trying to estimate the economic value of the contributions of Catholic religious sisters to health care (or you could choose another field). You could set some parameters. E.g., within geographical location X (maybe your home city, county, state or province), from year YYYY to ZZZZ. What curricular outcomes could you hit with this in subjects like history, math, social studies, or health? #MakingEveryClassCatholic

Great conversation happening now about rural communities and the challenges we face around healthcare. Cancer care and access to that care is a large part of this. This work is hard, impacts the whole community, and needs to involve cross-sectional work.
