Thank you for the interview (Colin Weston) and the nod (Stuart Lindsay and Jim Koppenhaver) about my view on the future of golf course supply in America. When I say future, I mean decades from now. What will it look like? Will the mix be more screen and less grass? It’s true that when a golf course closes, it’s sad for golf. But it might be the American Dream for the owners who sold. Will municipalities continue to invest more in golf (it’s been the only segment that has been growing)? Where will Americans choose to play their affordable golf? These are questions all golf industry leaders should be asking and examining. https://lnkd.in/gU58KpTb

Isn’t it funny how clown baseball can sell more tickets than legit MLB baseball? The Bananas are the #HarlemGlobetrotters of baseball. So what needs to change? The game? MLB? Ticket prices or all of the above? What do you think? How can the MLB sell more tickets and improve the game? #SavanahBananas
The Savannah Bananas sold out 42,000 seats at Nationals Park in D.C. this weekend, the largest game in the team’s history 🏟️ (via Jesse Cole)

Healthy golf operations generate revenue freely throughout the day. At some facilities, late afternoon and early evening starting times are discounted. And what’s more some facilities offer discounts all day long. Fact: The cost to serve a guest doesn't decline throughout each day. Facilities that co-mingle real value while remaining profitable within a challenging industry will provide lasting value. Golf Professionals: Don't afford competitors an advantage over your operation. Understand facility core values, communicate the message well to players and staff, and protect non-discounted pricing structures as 2025 begins. Bartering with the future of golf is dangerous. Protect your pricing.

Chasing Excellence: Rowing Towards Professional Growth We have a competition each year at Shrewsbury where houses row against each other and try and catch the boat in front. It's called Bumps. You try and 'bump' the boat in front, resulting in you moving up the order for the next race. Watching this years competition made me think of what a good metaphor this race is to capture the essence of career progression and the continuous pursuit of learning and improvement. The Boat Ahead: Your Benchmark The boat in front of you represents a benchmark—an ideal or role model in your field. It could be a colleague, mentor, or industry leader whose achievements inspire you. Observing this boat provides a clear target for your growth, not out of envy, but to measure your progress and motivate your development. The Race: A Continuous Journey Rowing towards the boat ahead isn’t about reaching a final destination but about continuous improvement. Each stroke requires effort, focus, and persistence. Professional growth mirrors this, demanding lifelong learning. Stopping means stagnation; continuous effort keeps you moving forward and if you’re right at the front you have to keep working hard to stay there. Overcoming Hurdles: The Challenges Along the Way In every race, there are obstacles—choppy waters, strong headwinds and boats that make mistakes that you have to navigate. These represent the challenges you face in your career, from mastering new skills to adapting to industry changes. Overcoming these hurdles enhances your capabilities and experience. The Finish Line: A Moving Target In professional development, there’s no fixed finish line. Today’s goal may evolve tomorrow. This ever-moving target keeps you engaged and ensures that your career remains vibrant and fulfilling. Conclusion: Embrace the race Every stroke forward is a victory, bringing you closer to your full potential and a rewarding, ever-evolving career. Keep your eyes on the boat ahead, and enjoy the journey of catching up.
The annual House Bumps competition is in full swing down at the river. It’s great to see so much support down at the Boathouse - good luck to all the rowers taking part in round one of the competition today.
