Can someone be an effective art director without experience in the technical aspects of image production? My flat answer is no, and this is why (Part 1/3)
Having hands-on experience in the production phase is not just important, it's absolutely invaluable. It goes beyond just having a basic understanding or comprehension of the process.
It's about gaining a deep and intimate understanding of the intricacies of the process, being aware of the pitfalls that you could fall into, knowing the shortcuts that can save time and resources, and being prepared for the potential challenges that may unpredictably arise.
This depth of understanding, this level of familiarity with the production phase, can significantly enhance the quality of your decision-making abilities.
When you're making decisions, you're not just making arbitrary calls based on theory or assumptions. Instead, your decisions are rooted in practical knowledge and hands-on experience.
This makes them more reliable and effective, helping to ensure the success of the production phase and the overall project.
If you have a different viewpoint or if your experience suggests otherwise, I would love to hear from you.
