We can do so much more if we change the mindset around apprenticeships. Companies and leaders need to realize that while there may be short term cost, apprenticeships drive value so quickly. In studies we've run it takes only 3 months for an apprentice to have a time savings that recoups the time spent learning. Couple that with a debt cycle wrapped up in a university system that no longer benefits most and we need to do something different here in the US. https://lnkd.in/gA_TtyuB

Can't argue with where the government has placed its apprenticeships focus in the announcement about the growth and skills levy this afternoon. Flexibility - as long as quality is maintained - is welcome, as is the emphasis on opportunities for younger people. Think it's important not to throw the baby out with the bathwater on L7 apprenticeships; need to make sure those that already deliver on the Skills England-identified priority areas are still fundable and attractive to employers.
We've been listening carefully to the Prime Minister's conference speech this afternoon. With a clear focus on boosting opportunities for young people, Sir Keir Starmer and Education Secretary, Bridget Phillipson, announced a new growth and skills levy, focusing on: - The introduction of foundation apprenticeships, supporting younger people to earn a salary while developing skills - Allowing shorter duration apprenticeships for greater flexibility for employers - Giving Skills England time to identify other types of training funded by the levy, based on priority skills needs We'll keep an interested eye out for further detail in the coming weeks, particularly as to how quality, credibility and relevance will be maintained under the new system. Great news ! This is a huge move towards parity for apprentices as they can now use their Level 3 apprenticeship as tariff points to progress onto Clinical Degree AHP apprenticeships ....working competence matters in workforce planning. 🤩

UCAS POINTS FOR APPRENTICESHIPS! 📰 For nearly two years my team have been working tirelessly with key stakeholders, regulators and governments from all four UK nations to consider how UCAS can include apprenticeships in the UCAS Tariff. 🧮 We engaged 60 key stakeholders to build a model of recognition, which we consulted on publicly with over 200 responses. The majority of which was incredibly positive. ✅ I’m so pleased that today we’ve been able to announce this really positive step toward parity. ⚖️ Details included below! 👇🏻 https://lnkd.in/eS5C8NBk

As soon as he took office this week, State of Delaware's newly inaugurated Governor Matt Meyer made it his first order of business to sign an executive order to support apprenticeships and other worked-based learning. Per the order, a working group will meet in February to determine opportunities for the state to create and encourage apprenticeships and their importance to a successful workforce. https://hubs.ly/Q033w9gs0 #ChooseDelaware #NetDE

What an absolutely fantastic post this is! At at time when there's much talk about the purpose/focus of the #apprenticeshiplevy and precisely how it will be 'reformed', Holly-Mae reminds us that Level 7 apprenticeships are definitely *not* the sole preserve of senior staff with prior degrees. Here is how they can be used to hugely accelerate a young person's career progression, whilst enabling employers to mould and shape the talent that will drive productivity.
The Value of Apprenticeships 👩💻 I had the incredible opportunity to sit at a round table with inspiring Kaplan UK apprentices and Neil Coyle MP during their visit to Kaplan. We discussed the vital role of apprenticeships in shaping our future workforce. Here are some key points we shared: 📝 Benefits of Apprenticeships: Apprenticeships provide practical skills and real-world experience, enabling companies to craft the skills and behaviours needed for their future workforce. As an apprentice, you’re invested in, and both you and your employer see incredible value from it. Challenges for Apprentices: We shared stories of the challenges we have faced on our apprenticeships and suggested areas for improvement to better support our learning, career progression, and outside factors such as our commute and living expenses, which can often be overlooked. Unconditional Support: We expressed our gratitude for the support and resources provided by Kaplan, including our Tutors, Talent Coaches, Mentors, and our employers for investing in us and often going above and beyond to uplift apprentices and ensure their success and happiness. I am grateful to have been given the chance to voice apprentices' views and ensure they are heard. That’s also why I take pride in being on the Kaplan Apprenticeship Advisory Panel (KAAP). Jenny Pelling Together, we can contribute to bettering the apprenticeship system and ensuring equal opportunities. It is crucial that challenging, higher-level apprenticeships, such as Level 7, continue to be funded to provide opportunities for everyone. ✨

❓❔Will UCAS ever consider allocating Tariff Points to Apprenticeships?❔❓ This is one of the questions I hear most often when I'm out and about, with so many people keen to see Apprenticeships getting more recognition and parity with other qualifications that are on the tariff. The good news? If you've not seen yet, this is exactly our intention. We've been working with stakeholders to develop a model that will enhance the visibility of pathways to HE for apprenticeships and support universities and colleges in their understanding of apprenticeships alongside other Level 3 qualifications. The pressing news? We want wider feedback, and if you've not yet responded to our engagement exercise on this - where we explain the model and take your feedback - then you need to move quickly: the exercise closes on Thursday 20th June. Many of us have questions about how to apply the Swiss approach to apprenticeship in the US, but here's a story that should occasion a second look. Colleen Connolly in Work Shift has done a deep dive on some exciting developments in Indiana. With a strong boost from civic leaders, Indiana is experimenting with a deep integration of apprenticeship with secondary education, building on broader movements towards strengthening career-connected learning opportunities. Apprenticeships for America member CareerWise USA has provided some of the inspiration for a bold goal to generate 50,000 youth apprenticeships. This is definitely a story to watch. https://lnkd.in/gtGkBKDG
