Renardo W., Environmental Service Worker III, has been with University Hospitals for more than two years. Before joining our team, he worked delivering oxygen, with UH Geauga Medical Center being one of his stops. Renardo enjoyed the atmosphere during his deliveries there, prompting him to apply to University Hospitals and join our team! Renardo began his career at UH Geauga Medical Center as an Environmental Service Worker I and, over his two-year tenure, earned two promotions to reach his current role as Environmental Service Worker III. “I’ve been in many areas of the hospital, including discharges, the Emergency Department, and the trash room. I currently work in the OR,” Renardo explained. “I love my work. I’ve had opportunities at other health care organizations, but I enjoy what I do and who I work with here at UH. I know I’m supported by my manager and peers.” Renardo greatly enjoys assisting the OR staff. “At the end of the day, I have a feeling of accomplishment when the OR staff tells me I’m doing a good job, and if they need me, they know I’m there for them.” Renardo enjoys being a part of UH so much that he doesn’t think twice about encouraging others to join our team. “There are so many opportunities, and you don’t need to settle for just one role, people come to work in Environmental Services and grow in many areas,” he said. If you’re seeking a place where you can advance your career, consider bringing it to UH! Explore our available positions and apply today. https://lnkd.in/ezQ4p3Gs #UHNursing #UHCareers

🏥 What a journey it's been from the sterile, high-pressure environment of a hospital to the sunny, laid-back atmosphere of poolside…⛱️ 🌐 While the roles may seem worlds apart, I'm learning that my mental health, nurse executive and legal nurse certifications have equipped me with a surprisingly versatile skill set! 👩🏫 🤯 I'm so amazed at how- and how often- my nursing process and human services systems thinking background proves invaluable outside of the hospital setting. 🏨 🌞 For example, this summer, for my new, collaborative community endeavor as a volunteer, self-appointed, self-titled “property manager tech”...🏢 …and, officially, “community pool attendant”. ⛑️ 🤔 Consider these points: Critical Thinking and Problem-Solving: Whether it's a medical emergency or a pool pump malfunction, the ability to quickly assess a situation, identify potential solutions, and implement a plan is essential. 💭 Leadership and Teamwork: Managing a property and staff is similar to leading a healthcare team. Effective communication, delegation, and collaboration are key to success.👨💼 Time Management and Organization: Balancing multiple tasks simultaneously is a daily challenge in both roles. Prioritizing responsibilities and staying organized is crucial. 🕘 Customer Service: Providing exceptional care to patients and residents requires a similar approach. Empathy, patience, and a focus on meeting needs are paramount. 🤜🤛 Risk Assessment and Safety: Ensuring the safety of patients and residents is a top priority. Identifying and consistently monitoring potential hazards as well implementing preventive measures is essential in both fields. 🦺 While I miss the adrenaline rush of inpatient treatment, I've found a fulfilling career path that allows me to utilize my skills in so many new and exciting ways.💡👏🏻 And who doesn't love editing a form or proposing the building of vestibules?!?!🖍✏️ 🖍See also🖍: https://lnkd.in/gzJEeW4J #nursetopropertymanager #unexpectedcareerpath #skillstransfer #poolsidelife #criticalthinking #leadership #customerservice #editor #safetyfirst #monitor #forms #communityhealth #volunteer #roadtojoy #wedogoodwork #youdontknowwhatyouknow #communitybuilding #publichealth #collaboration #tranferableskills #organizationalleadership #newproject

My character is as important as my: * Education * Skills * Professionalism * The institution I represent and work for * My personal values * The impact I make in people's lives * The way my profession is being judged * What people say about me * What can be entrusted to my keeping * The confidence reposed on me Throughout my years of practice as a nurse, I've learned these very key things that form part of my career life:

I began my professional career life in healthcare. I was a nurse's aid and later, a nurse. I worked in hospitals and in physicans' offices. I found I was driven by a strong need to not just help people but to find solutions to what ailed them, so I read patient charts from cover to cover, with medical textbooks at hand to research their conditions and treatments, mostly to see if the solution I'd found was the one that was chosen. I also developed a sense of determination to keep searching for the right answer and to seek out others whom I knew could provide the right answers. I don't give up. I've carried that mindset to my later career choices. Service. Researching problems and finding solutions (aka "fixing what's broke"). So now, when I'm working with clients on solving their communications issues, my early training kicks in and I've learned to trust my intuition: if I know there's a solution or something that will make things right, I don't stop until I've found it. We make things right. We will do that for you. #telecomsolutions #telecommunications #costreduction #fixingthings #makingthingsright #wevegotthis

Careers Provision - Shifting the Focus In true teacher fashion, I can never switch my brain off to learning opportunities and how to enrich the curriculum. Whilst laid up in hospital these past 33 (!) days, I have met some amazing people with roles that many of my students wouldn’t even know existed / wouldn’t think of when considering their futures. For any of my teacher friends that are involved in careers provision in your schools, please feel free to share with your students. *DIETICIAN / NUTRITIONIST* Monitoring and planning for my specific nutritional needs, providing TPN (intravenous) infusions to keep me healthy whilst unable to eat. Speaking with patients daily, involving me in all decisions, helping me to understand what I need and how I will now receive that. *CATERING / HOSPITALITY* Catering for thousands of patients, hundreds of staff, adapting meals constantly with ever changing parameters and trying to keep everybody comfortable in a very volatile environment. Sometimes the first person you see in the morning with a fresh jug of water ora lovely cup of tea - can make the start of your day so much better. *PORTER* I have met some absolute cracking porters in #FrimleyPark. Part timers / full timers / those who love a chat / those who want to be the most efficient. A perfect job for an active, friendly, kind person who wants to meet different people everyday and help those when they most need it. *PHYSIOTHERAPY* Lots of my students would think sport straightaway, or maybe treatment after an injury, but what about those who help older patients regain their ability to get out of bed independently? Or to get to the bathroom with dignity? I have been through a really tough time recently and all of the medical and healthcare staff have been phenomenal. But not every careers lesson should focus on being a doctor / nurse / healthcare assistant / radiographer. Studying medicine isn’t for everyone, but the NHS as a whole definitely is! #healthcare #curriculum #careers #opportunitiesforall #feelinggrateful
