Yet more evidence on the value of vocational rehabilitation to help employees back into the workplace following an absence. 80% of line managers also agreed this is a valuable service and makes a big difference in enabling a successful return. If we are to improve productivity at a societal/economic level, then more widespread adoption of these services by employers is crucial. It's in their business interest to do so and they are proven to make a difference. We need to encourage employers to adopt them; use them early in the absence; train line managers on the process and leadership to oversee them. #sickness #rehabilitation #returntowork

The reciprocity between well-being and employment. I see this in workers comp in practice. One can't simply jump into next job that they are passively "matched" to. Employment journey is deeper than that. "Interventions that appeared effective in improving well-being tended to focus on addressing social connectedness and self-determination. Unexpected employment outcomes were evident across many of the studies, which highlighted the reciprocity between well-being and employment." Nice work Peter McILVEEN PhD, lots of good takeaway points to think about. I see direct implications of social connectedness and self-determination in our rehab centre at WorkGain. #returntowork #biopsychosocial

"People can have careers and be active parents" I disagree. Not *everyone* can. I'm lucky enough to have: 🖤 A supportive husband 🧡 My own business 🖤 Family that can help But what about parents who: - Are single mums or dads - Have no family support - Can't work from home - Have a disabled child - Struggle with health - Don't have savings It costs £7,729 a year on average to send 1 child to nursery for 25 hours a week 🤯 If you can't work from home If you can't afford childcare If you can't rely on others Then please tell me how it's possible for parents - especially women who more commonly take on most parental duties - to: - Grow their personal brand - Network at evening drinks - Travel around to meet clients - Overdeliver on KPIs and projects - Volunteer for company initiatives - Work overtime to 'prove' their value (Basically all the things that aid career growth). Spoiler: it's NOT possible. A lot of this is bigger than employer policies. But employers can do this: → Offer some flexibility / hybrid work. You have NO idea the difference this makes to working parents. It's career-changing 🙏🏻 PS. Meet my lovely family 😍
