What the Origins of Humanity Can and Can’t Tell Us There’s still much to be learned about our prehistory. But we can’t help using it to explain the societies we have or to justify the ones we want. “Such stories about human origins are appealing because they explain the societies we have or justify the ones we want. Yet considerations of human history across the very longue durée have also prompted dismal projections, and these exert a magnetic attraction of their own. In the Second World War, technology, long held up by archeologists as the yardstick of human progress, became indelibly linked with mass destruction. […] However much we’ve learned about the origins of humanity, it has become dangerously easy to bring about its end.” By Maya Jasanoff https://lnkd.in/esmjzngh #history #technology #humanity

Great news! My first professional publication in philosophy! "An Integral Approach to Philosophy of Nature" in the Journal of Conscious Evolution is a slightly revised version of a presentation that I gave this past summer at the "Nature, Thinking: From Romanticism and Idealism to Ecological Philosophy" hosted by The Association for Continental Philosophy of Religion. In this paper, I introduce "embodied phenomenology" as a way of accessing the sacramental (sacred) nature of this Universe. Please check it out: #philosophy #naturelover #ecology #romanticism #phenomenology #nature #spirituality #integralphilosophy

♻️Recent stone tool discoveries are prompting a reassessment of the cultural evolution of Homo sapiens during their spread across Eurasia around 50,000 to 40,000 years ago. ♻️This research, from a study led by the Nagoya University Museum in Japan, challenges the prevailing view of a swift cultural and technological ‘revolution’ that enabled modern humans to surpass Neanderthals and other archaic human species. ♻️Instead, it suggests a more intricate and gradual process of cultural evolution.

Indeed, the origin of the name "Earth" remains shrouded in mystery. Unlike other celestial bodies whose names have clear origins in ancient mythology or astronomy, the etymology of "Earth" is less definitive. Some theories suggest that the name may have derived from the Old English word "eorthe," which means ground or soil. Others propose connections to ancient Germanic and Norse languages, where similar words refer to the world or the ground. However, the precise individual or culture responsible for naming our planet remains unknown, leaving it as one of the enduring enigmas of linguistic history. #earth #name #history

🌌 **Exploring Ancient Myths: The Anunnaki and Their Legacy** 🌌 In his groundbreaking 1976 book, *The Twelfth Planet*, the fascinating ideas of Zecharia Sitchin come to life, suggesting that the Anunnaki—an extraterrestrial race from the mysterious planet Nibiru—visited Earth around 500,000 years ago. Their mission? To mine gold and manipulate the course of human evolution! According to Sitchin, these ancient beings genetically engineered *homo erectus* to create modern humans, whom they used as laborers. As history unfolded, the Anunnaki faced a crisis when melting Antarctic glaciers led to the cataclysmic Flood of Noah, destroying their bases on Earth and prompting a massive reconstruction effort. Sitchin’s theories extend beyond the ancient past. He posits that the Anunnaki were responsible for some of humanity's most monumental structures, including the pyramids, which he argues could not have been built without advanced technologies. Furthermore, he suggests that human-alien hybrids may still walk among us, unaware of their extraordinary ancestry. In his later works, such as *The Stairway to Heaven* and *The Wars of Gods and Men*, Sitchin continued to weave this intricate tapestry of ancient astronaut theory. He even predicted the return of the Anunnaki around 2012, coinciding with the end of the Mesoamerican Long Count calendar. While these ideas are controversial and widely debated, they invite us to ponder the mysteries of our past and the possibility of life beyond our planet. What do you think about the Anunnaki and their potential influence on human history?
