🏳️⚧️ Since 2021, hormone therapy for trans youth experiencing gender dysphoria has been banned in a staggering 24 states across the U.S.A. 🩺 This has led to significant opposition from respected medical organizations, including the American Medical Association, the American Psychiatric Association, and the American Academy of Pediatrics. 🏥 As a result, countless families are forced to travel long distances to access essential medical care or face the heartbreaking reality of their child's suffering due to inadequate access. ⤵ Read the complete story on trans healthcare below: #TransRights #HealthcareForAll #Advocacy #MentalHealth #LGBTQ #News

Today, I reach out not only as a trans individual but also as a concerned member of a society witnessing a concerning national trend. The recently proposed healthcare restrictions in Ohio are a part of a larger pattern we're seeing across the U.S. -- only three days into 2024 legislators have already submitted 125 bills targeting the transgender community -- and it's crucial that we all understand and address this collectively. 📜 The Alarming Trend 1. Ohio’s Dire Situation: The state's proposed rules will severely limit transgender care, requiring multiple specialist approvals and mandatory reporting of gender dysphoria diagnoses, threatening to end most adult trans care. 2. A National Issue: Similar restrictive measures are surfacing in states like Florida and beyond, reflecting a disturbing trend toward limiting the rights and healthcare access of transgender individuals. 🌐 Why This Concerns Every One of Us Imagine living in a world where your access to essential healthcare is hindered by laws that don't apply to others. This is the current reality for many trans folks – a stark violation of fundamental human rights that affects us all as part of a connected society. 💬 Addressing Common Misconceptions 1. Specialized Treatment or Unfair Barriers? While specialized care is crucial, these laws impose unprecedented barriers, making gender-affirming care almost unattainable, unlike any other medical treatment. 2. Quality Healthcare or Discriminatory Practice? Ensuring quality healthcare is essential, but these regulations cross into discrimination, creating unequal and unjust hurdles. 🤝 Your Role in Making a Difference 1. Educate: Dive deeper into these issues. Knowledge is power. 2. Empathize: Imagine the impact of these restrictions on real lives. 3. Engage: Raise your voice. Participate in dialogues, sign petitions, and support relevant legislation. 🔗 Subscribe to Erin's Newsletter for More Insights I highly recommend subscribing to Erin Reed’s newsletter for ongoing, detailed reporting and advocacy on this issue. Her work is pivotal in informing and engaging us on these critical issues. 🌈 In Conclusion This is more than a trans issue; it reflects our values as a society. When one group's rights are under threat, it diminishes us all. Let's unite in this fight for equity and dignity in healthcare. Together, we can create a society where every person's rights, including yours, are acknowledged and respected. #TransRightsAreHumanRights #HealthcareEquity

If you're shocked by anything in this article, you really need to do some research. Gender-affirming care has been around for decades, and yes, cisgender people have been using it...a lot. Let me share some key points from this article, as I'm sure some won't read it. 🌟#GenderAffirming treatments, such as #HormoneTherapies and surgeries, have been used for decades. 🌟Gender-affirming care is not new or experimental. It has been almost 60 years since the first #transgender medical clinic opened in the U.S. 🌟Hormone Replacement Therapy (#HRT) has long been prescribed not just to trans people but also to #cisgender women, particularly those experiencing menopause. Additionally, hormonal therapies have been used to enforce #GenderNorms in cisgender children, such as prescribing them to alter height or other secondary sex characteristics. 🌟There is a history of # interventions on #intersex children to make their bodies conform to binary gender norms, often without #medical necessity. 🌟The current #political opposition to gender-affirming care for trans people is argued to be not about the safety of the treatments, but rather about their use by trans people specifically. 🌟Trans people face difficulties in accessing gender-affirming care, including medical gatekeeping and the need to conform to certain narratives or diagnoses. 🌟Restricting gender-affirming care could have broader implications beyond the trans community, potentially affecting treatments for cisgender people, including those related to menopause, birth control, and various surgeries. 🌟Major medical organizations in the U.S. oppose #government restrictions on gender-affirming care, recognizing these treatments as time-tested and safe. The reason it's important to recognize that gender-affirming care is not a new concept is that it challenges the narrative that such treatments are experimental or untested. The article clearly demonstrates that these therapies have been part of medical practice for decades, not only for trans people but also for cisgender people. By understanding this history, it is evident that the opposition to gender-affirming care for trans people is not grounded in concerns about the novelty or safety of these treatments but stems from #biases and misunderstandings about trans identities. This recognition is crucial in advocating for the #rights and #healthcare needs of the trans community.
