This makes me sick. I vehemently oppose and express deep concern regarding the decision made by the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) to stop providing #GenderAffirming care for #transgender minors. This decision, influenced by #political pressure and #misconceptions, significantly harms an already #vulnerable community. The ending of gender-affirming care has profound and detrimental effects on #TransYouth. Access to gender-affirming #healthcare, including #HormoneTherapy, is crucial for many trans people to alleviate #GenderDysphoria and lead fulfilling lives. By denying this care, MUSC is directly contributing to increased #MentalHealth risks, heightened dysphoria, and potential desperation among trans youth. It is heartbreaking and infuriating to witness the #medical community yield to #political pressure, sacrificing the well-being of trans people. The decision to cease gender-affirming care is not only #discriminatory but also contradicts the fundamental principle of #healthcare – to provide comprehensive and #inclusive #medical support for everyone. The discriminatory nature of this decision becomes even more apparent when considering that gender-affirming care is not withheld for #cisgender patients. The medical community is responsible for upholding #ethical standards and providing care that supports all patients' diverse needs without #prejudice or discrimination. Furthermore, the misconception propagated by external sources, such as Elon Musk, has led to misinterpretations about the medical treatments received by trans minors. It is critical to correct these misconceptions. The decision made by MUSC not only succumbs to political pressure but also disregards the #expertise and input of #MedicalProfessionals who understand the necessity of gender-affirming care for trans youth. Excluding doctors and key employees from the decision-making process further undermines the #integrity of the #healthcare system and exacerbates the #marginalization of trans people. I urge the medical community to stand firm in providing inclusive and affirming care for all individuals, regardless of their gender identity. Denying trans youth access to essential healthcare services not only violates their #rights but also perpetuates systemic discrimination within the healthcare system. Healthcare institutions must prioritize the well-being of trans people by reinstating and expanding gender-affirming care, ensuring #equitable access to #comprehensive healthcare for all. And the last time I checked, Elon Musk isn't a medical professional and would do well to focus on running X (formerly Twitter) since all of his major advertisers seem to be leaving the platform.
