The winds of change have come! For many years, Ohio providers have referred to our nursing assistants as "State-tested nursing assistants" or "STNAs". Meanwhile, most of the country refer to them as "certified nursing assistants" or "CNAs". Our nursing assistants are more than just state-tested. They complete a rigorous course of study and earn a certification by demonstrating competencies in their profession. Effective today, Nursing Assistants in Ohio can officially take the designation of CNA. OHCA members should check their weekly newsletters for more information on which provisions take effect immediately, and which provisions still require rule making. #CNAOhio #LongTermCare

What is in a name? For many years, Ohio providers have referred to our nursing assistants as "State-tested nursing assistants" or "STNAs". Meanwhile, most of the country refer to them as "certified nursing assistants" or "CNAs". Our nursing assistants are more than just state-tested. They complete a rigorous course of study and earn a certification by demonstrating competencies in their profession. It is past time that we honor our nursing assistants with a title more befitting their accomplishments. Senate Bill 144 accomplished effectively changing this designation for our nursing assistants to CNAs. As long term care providers, we will need to update our job descriptions and policies as well as educate our staff on this change in professional designation. Help OHCA spread the word on this important change in how we view the backbone to our profession- our Certified Nursing Assistants! #CNAOhio #LongTermCare
