The Nightingale Preceptor Lamp Award recognizes the outstanding contributions the preceptor makes in guiding the new nurse. The preceptor provides the light for the new nurse’s practice just as Ms. Nightingale’s lamp provided the light for her nursing actions. Help us congratulate this year’s recipient, Matthew Wallace, BSN, RN, with a “like” and/or comment below! If Matthew was your preceptor, let us know. #nursing #cardiovascular #preceptor

A serious issue. I don’t think colleges/universities are giving the full story, there are a lot of nurse educators in the workforce willing and able to teach the next generation of nurses! There are several factors to consider: 1. Below-market pay - I feel like this goes without saying 2. Unrealistic expectations - many universities turn away applicants without significant teaching experience - instead of providing orientation and training to new nurse educators that are passionate about teaching and willing to learn. 3. Fake job posts - there are MANY big name universities and colleges out there who claim to be hiring, but are posting ads for jobs that really don’t exist or that they don’t plan on filling anytime soon 4. Recruitment issues - lack of follow up with qualified candidates due to large volume of applicants compared to small recruiting workforce
