📝 In a recent piece, Dr. Julie J. Park, Dr. Kelly Rosinger, and Dr. Dominique J. Baker explore how test-optional policies can play a crucial role in expanding access to higher education, especially now, one year after SCOTUS announced its decision curtailing race-conscious admissions. "Test-optional and test-free policies are no [end-all-be-all] to the entrenched inequities that surround higher education admissions, but they remain a tool that may be able to expand access." On Friday, I had the honor of addressing the University of Nebraska Board of Regents to discuss the future of our great institution. Together, we are embarking on an Odyssey to the Extraordinary—a journey powered by innovation, collaboration, and a shared commitment to the people of Nebraska. Our bold strategic plan is rooted in five foundational pillars: Teaching and Learning, Research and Creative Activity, Partnerships and Engagement, Culture and Environment, and Stewardship and Effectiveness. These guideposts will drive us toward new heights of academic excellence, community impact, and economic growth. Already, we’ve made great strides: • Achieving $617M in research expenditures, ranking NU among top institutions nationally. • Expanding our Presidential Scholars program to retain Nebraska’s brightest students. • Launching key initiatives like the Infectious Diseases Air Transport Training Facility, enhancing NU’s global leadership. This is just the beginning. The ripples of our work are already creating far-reaching impacts across the state and beyond. Together, we will continue building a university that inspires, uplifts, and drives extraordinary progress for all. Read more: https://lnkd.in/gRm_ZWpC

Research by Beth Green and Caitlin Houser of Portland State University, with Lindsey Patterson of Oregon Health & Science University, analyzes data from a 10-year University-Community partnership focused on supporting implementation and improvement of a Prenatal-Grade 3 (P3) system in an elementary school. The researchers seek to identify where and how racial inequities surfaced, to describe how systemic racism influenced the evaluation and P3 Initiative process, and how this served to perpetuate the status quo and prevent transformative systems change. Their results speak to opportunities for researchers, funders, and policymakers to identify and disrupt conventionally-accepted approaches to educational research and to work more effectively to advance educational equity for children and their families. Good stuff in here about key financial indicators to watch at your private college or university. We looked at 5 schools in Missouri. One looks normal in terms of financial health and 4 do not. I always learn from these assessments, and I think you will too. I wasn't aware of how often schools resort to borrowing from their restricted endowment funds. This practice raises questions about whether donor intent is maintained in these arrangements, what additional risks are involved with borrowing from restricted funds, and why these schools can't instead get normal loans in the financial markets.
The premier video episode of "The College Financial Health Show" with Matt Hendricks and Gary Stocker delves into the world of private college finances. The cost of a college education continues to climb, leaving many students and families wondering about the financial stability of their chosen institutions. Using data from financial statements, IRS Form 990s, and IPEDS, we'll examine the financial health and viability of these institutions. Join us as we uncover the numbers and determine which private colleges are thriving and which may be facing challenges. The first episode reviews the financial health of 5 private colleges in Missouri. + Central Methodist University + Missouri Valley College + Westminster College + William Jewell College + William Woods University Next week we will look at 4 private Pennsylvania colleges: Drexel, Arcadia, Chatham, and Keystone. https://lnkd.in/g99fKqmb The EdUp Experience Central Methodist University Missouri Valley College Westminster College (MO) William Jewell College William Woods University #collegefinances #willmycollegeclose #collegeclosures #collegeviability #perspectivedatascience Perspective Data Science

Every day, we witness the power of education to change lives. According to Lumina Foundation’s A Stronger Nation report, nearly 55% of working-age adults in the U.S. now hold a degree or credential beyond high school. A milestone that represents the power of educational institutions, policymakers, and communities working together. There has been growth across all 50 states, with the most significant progress in Puerto Rico—showing how thoughtful investments and strategic policies can transform education. But challenges remain. We need to prioritize access, student supports, persistence and completion and we need to ensure that degrees are aligned with workforce needs and we need to work together to achieve this.
