𝗔 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗲𝗿𝗮 𝗼𝗳 𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗿𝗴𝘆 𝘁𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁: In a landmark clinical study just published in Nature Communications, researchers from the Luxembourg Institute of Health (LIH), the Luxembourg Centre for Systems Biomedicine (LCSB) - University of Luxembourg, the Allergy Center Wiesbaden, Ulm University Hospital and the Brussels Vrije Universiteit revealed the early immune mechanisms behind the exceptional success of insect venom Immunotherapy. The study identified early molecular and cellular changes already at 8 hours immediately following the first immunotherapy administrations, changes that will pave the way for curative immune tolerance. Overall it provides novel insights that could revolutionise allergy treatment and improve outcomes for millions suffering from chronic immune disorders. New Year, New Paper! 🥳 Egg-cited to share my latest publication on egg allergy, now available in the EAACI PAI Journal - Pediatric Allergy and Immunology! 🐣 🔬 This study sheds light on the immunological mechanisms underlying naturally acquired baked egg tolerance, which is considered an important first step toward full raw egg tolerance. 🧪 We investigated key differences in T-cell and cytokine responses between children with natural baked egg tolerance and non-egg-allergic children. Specifically, we evaluated egg-responsive Tr1 and Th2 cells by analyzing CD49b, LAG3, ICOS, and CRTH2 expression, as well as cytokine profiles in response to egg allergens. 🍳 These findings contribute to our understanding of the immune pathways involved in natural baked egg tolerance and how they might guide future approaches for treating egg allergy. Spotted an interested article on oral and dental health and Cows Milk Protein Allergy in EMJ. We, dietitians know that CMPA can have a negative impact on nutritional intake, weaning and dietary habits. This study found that subjects with CMPA had lower intakes of lactose, calcium, fluoride and phosphorus compared to healthy subjects. Although interestingly, higher intakes of vitamin D (?due to consumption of infant formula), but lower serum levels and sucrose (not statistically significant). Authors conclude that CMPA does not appear to directly influence dental health, but poorer dental health is associated with serum vitamin D levels and maternal education in those with CMPA. Stressing the importance of oral health programmes and monitoring of vitamin D levels in infants and young children with CMPA.
